Coast Guard holds Safe Boating open house

LEON:..THE U.S. COAST GUARD IS STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF BOATING SAFETY AS WE HEAD INTO THE SUMMER MONTHS.THEY HELD AN OPEN HOUSE TODAY TO PUT A SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON SAFE BOATING. 3 PEOPLE WERE INVITED THE COME OUT AND TOUR THE STATION AND ITS BOATS, AND SPEAK TO MEMBERS OF THE COAST GUARD. THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK, WHICH IS TRADITIONALLY THE WEEK BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY. 3 10:14:48-10:15:01KIRK MCKAY: U.S. COAST GUARD MASTER CHIEF/GRAND HAVEN: I THINK EVERY SEASON OUR GOAL IS TO MINIMIZE, YOU KNOW THE RESCUES, MINIMIZE HAZARDS OR MISHAPS.SO WE’RE JUST KIND OF HOPING THAT THIS IS JUST AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP PEOPLE BE AWARE OF BOATING SAFETY. 3 THE COAST GUARD WANTS TO ENCOURAGE BOATERS TO ALWAYS WEAR LIFE JACKETS, MAINTAIN A VIGILANT LOOKOUT, SHARE THE WATERWAY, LOOKOUT, SHARE THE WATERWAY, AND BOAT SOBER.THEY SAY SIMPLE ACTIONS SUCH AS THESE COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ENJOYABLE DAY BOATING AND NOT RETURNING HOME TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. 3 3
