Full Folsom Lake Greets Boaters For Memorial Day Weekend

September 9, 2019

THEN EVENTUALLY SUMMER LIKE JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAY. BACK OVER TO YOU. MANY ARE ALREADY AT FOLSOM LAKE READY TO HIT THE WATERS. A PRETTY SHOT THERE. LEMOR ABRAMS IS THERE WITH HOW THE LAKE IS LOOKING. LEMOR? Reporter: TECHNOLOGY LOOKING JUST GORGEOUS. IT’S SO FULL AND PEOPLE ARE GETTING READY FOR A VERY CROWDED WEEKEND. EVEN UNDER THESE GRAY SKIES, BOATERS ARE EXPECTING ONE OF THE BUSIEST WEEKENDS OF THE YEAR, EVEN AS MANY OF THEM ARE STILL DRYING OUT. YOU’D THINK JUST GOT UP FROM A WET BOAT RIDE. NOPE. ALL THAT WATER HE’S DUMPING OUT INTO THE LAKE IS FROM LAST NIGHT’S RAINSTORM. BUT THIS IS HOW HE KICKS OFF THE UNOFFICIAL START TO SUMMER. GENERALLY ON MEMORIAL DAY, THEY HAVE TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY BECAUSE IT JUST FILLS UP SO FAST. Reporter: HE’S NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT THE CROWD, FOLSOM LAKE IS SO HIGH, SOME PARK BENCHES ARE UNDER WATER. THE LAKE LEVEL IS AT 464 FEET, JUST 2 FEET UNDER CAPACITY. HE’S BEEN BOATING HERE SO MANY YEARS HE’S GOT HIS OWN WAY OF MEASURING THE WATER. WE ALWAYS GAUGE THE NUMBER OF STEPS THAT YOU HAVE TO WALK FROM THE PARKING LOT DOWN TO THE BURS. AND IT’S THREE STEPS. I HAVEN’T SEEN A 3-STEPPER IN A LONG, LONG TIME. Reporter: AND A SWOLLEN LAKE MEANS MORE SPACE TO EXPLORE. WE’RE JUST GOING TO BE CLIFF, JUMPING, JET SKIING, AND BOATING. Reporter: THEY’RE WARNING SKIERS AND BOATERS TO WATCH OUT FOR DEBRIS IN THE LAKE. IT WAS WARM. Reporter: WARM MAY BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. OFFICIALS SAY THE LAKE IS ACTUALLY RUNNING COLDER THAN IN PREVIOUS YEARS. THE KEY, WEAR A LIFE VEST. AND ONE MORE THING. JUST HAVE A GOOD TIME. Reporter: AND OF COURSE IF YOU CAN, TRY TO GET HERE EARLY BECAUSE RANGERS SAY IF IT GETS TOO CROWDED HERE THEY MIGHT HAVE TO TURN YOU AWAY AT THE GATE. BACK TO YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT, LEMOR, THANKS SO MUCH FOR THAT LIVE REPORT. AND IF YOU DO PLAN ON BOATING THIS WEEKEND, DON’T FORGET IF YOU’RE UNDER 21, YOU WILL NEED A BOATER CARD TO DRIVE THE VESSEL. THE NEW LAW PASSED BACK IN JANUARY, BUT WAS NOT ENFORCED UNTIL THIS WEEKEND. TO GET THE LICENSE PEOPLE MUST TAKE THE COURSE, PASS A TEST AND PAY A ONE-TIME $10 FEE FOR THAT CARD. BY THE YEAR 2025, ALL BOAT DRIVERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A LICENSE. AND IF YOU WANT TO KEEP AN EYE ON THIS WILD WEATHER, WE
