Man in critical condition after boating accident on Hillsborough River

September 12, 2019

WE’VE NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS EXPECTED TO HEAR. A MAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED YET ON THE HILLSBOROUGH RIVER WHEN HE DROVE HIS PERSONAL WATERCRAFT INTO THE PATH OF A BOAT. THE ENTIRE INCIDENT WAS CAUGHT ON SECURITY CAMERA VIDEO. THEY ARE NOW INVESTIGATING. WE ARE JOINED FROM THE RIVER, JEFF? Reporter: GOOD EVENING, KEITH, IT WAS A FUN DAY, BEAUTIFUL DAY TO BE ON THE RIVER. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ONE MAN, IT QUICKLY TURNED INTO A LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. HE WAS JUST WATCHING FOOTBALLIN HIS HOME WHEN YOU SAW ACTION. I SAW THEM JUMPING UP. Reporter: SOMETHING LOOKED DIFFERENT TO HIM YESTERDAY. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, I SAID, SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET HURT. Reporter: TAKE A LOOK AT HIS SECURITY CAMERA VIDEO. SOMEONE WAS HURT AND HURT SERIOUSLY. THE OPERATOR OF A PERSONAL WATERCRAFT TURNED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF A BOAT AND IS RUN OVER. HE SAYS THE MAN OPERATING THE BOAT DOVE INTO THE WATER TO SAVE THE LIFE OF THE MAN HE HAD JUST HIT, BUT IT DIDN’T LOOK GOOD. HE WAS LIFELESS. I WASN’T SURE IF HE SURVIVED AT THE TIME. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THAT. Reporter: THE FWC HAS IDENTIFIED THE MAN ON THE PERSONAL WATERCRAFT AS 30-YEAR- OLD LEX LOGAN SAL MONDAYS WHO WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES, BUT DID SURVIVE. DAVVLE WOULD LIKE TO SEE CHANGE ON THE RIVER. WE HAVE A 25-MILE-PER-HOUR SPEED LIMIT, BUT IN THE BACK THEY COME BY AT 70. I THINK A 25 ON THE FRONT AND BACK WOULD BE SUFFICIENT. Reporter: I JUST LEARNED WITHIN THE LAST FEW MOMENTS THE MAN ON THE PERSONAL WATERCRAFT IS NOW IN CRITICAL CONDITION AT THE HOSPITAL FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE.

Completely reckless jetskier. I have a motorcycle and jetski and I always saybits safer on the water because you have all that space and so little traffic. And then guys like this go try to prove me wrong.
