Super Mario Galaxy – Ship Access Glitch

January 17, 2020

Choose a star at Deep Dark Galaxy which has the ship area blocked off (Such as Bubble Blastoff). Go up to the cliff area overlooking the beach with a pipe on it. Stand against the rocky wall and face away, standing right next to the edge, then backflip onto the rocky edge, and you’ll start to slide off. Tilt the control stick in the direction you are sliding, jump, shake the Wii remote, and immediately hold the control stick backwards. This allows you to ‘climb’ steep areas by re-activating your spin jump. Keep repeating this process and work your way over to the tall point above the pipe. On your final jump, go backwards far enough that you will fall through. After falling through, hold the control stick to fall towards the underground lake. If you don’t get close enough to the lake, you’ll keep falling and lose a life. You should be able to swim now, even though the surface is really low. Swim towards the blocked off path to the ship. Once you get close enough, the water will allow you to swim upwards. Stay near either the lake or the tunnel of water, otherwise you will run out of water to swim in. After you get past the final blockade, swim into the area with the jellyfish. You can now surface and explore the empty ship area. This is what happens if you don’t fall close enough to the water.

    Thank you! 🙂

I am very interested in glitches from mario games. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has probably over 500 glitches. I love exploring and finding and trying glitches. There are some videos on my channel of them. Do you know about the Infinite Flutterjump glitch? It is in SMG2.

Yes! I picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2 about two weeks ago, and I'm planning on uploading glitch videos from it soon!

I wonder why Super Mario Galaxy 2 is so glitchy. What happened, Nintendo? Nuclear reaction? And by the way, what capture device are you using? I am planning to do LP's soon, and I need one. Yours seems pretty nice!

For recording, I just use a Dell TV tuner.

    What is that?

  • Reply GlitchFish November 24, 2012 at 4:55 am

It's an external one. I use a connector to split the video so I can play with a screen that doesn't have delay.

Is there any way to get back to the regular area once you get to the ghost ship area?

  • Reply GlitchFish March 8, 2013 at 4:33 am

Hmm, I don't think there is.

Some of them may be harder than others. Keep practicing and the glitches should work! 🙂

Unrelated, but is there a glitch in one of the Melty Molten missions where you can get Mario to act as if he's still running on a platform with a wall in front of him, even tho he's jumped OFF the platform and can land in the pit below past the two fire-spewing hoses he has to wall-jump past? I accidentally caused it to happen one time and it got me killed :S

do you need luigi to access this glitch?

  • Reply Brian Villalta February 2, 2014 at 4:44 am

Did you see luigi die at the end

It's not easy getting Luigi in super mario galaxy. You have to get all stars. But it's easy to get him on super mario galaxy 2. You just have to beat the game.

@Akzomp The infinite flutter jump was introduced in Super Mario Sunshine, but it is pretty cool.

Your title should be Super Mario Galaxy- Out of Bounds at Deep Dark Galaxy/ Ship Access Glitch

i found another way to make this happen on ANY star in this galaxy! here's how it goes! When you enter the cave, go to the left of the wall of the entrance, then backflip on the platform, make your way to the highest item block, then go on top of it, backflip with your back right up against the wall facing SLIGHTLY to the right (so that you backflip towards the left) then spin (make sure you don't hit the wall) walljump then spin again, if dont correctly you'll clip through! once done, swim backwards and right, you should end up where the ship is! OTHER STUFF TO DO: you can point backwards as you fall to end up in an early part of the underground lake, go front to get out, once in water, don't go too far right or left, you will die!

+Glitchfish Please, I'm begging you to read this because it is really cool! I have explored this Out of Bounds world, and discovered a way to…you'll see.
In the mission Bubble Blastoff, when you go into the cave while ignoring the Undergrunt Gunner, make it to this spot, where you start doing the glitch. Slope your way out of bounds as usual and land in the water. Right now, we're caught up with what's going on in the video. Now, you might know that from the base of the Underground Lake, there are two segments to swim upwards to. One being the Underground Ghost Ship, and the other being the surface where you are first meant to swim in the mission. Instead of swimming to the ghost ship like Glitchfish did, swim to the other segment. When you make it to that surface, the place looks ridiculous as long as you stay Out of Bounds. If you're at the surface of a large tub of water containing a Magikoopa and a Blue Toad standing by some water spouts, you're doing perfect. While Out of Bounds, swim around the inbounds area, being sure not to head inbounds. Don't get too far away though, as you'll die if you swim off. Also, make sure the camera doesn't revert inbounds. This doesn't ruin the glitch, but makes the next step hard to do. The area containing sand…swim along next to it, and right before you align with the sand, STOP. From here, we want to get to the beach, but going straight forward leads to a downwards plummet, so that's no good. If you're still Out of Bounds, which you should be, you'll notice the water within the beach lingering next to you. Swim directly over there, but don't go in bounds. Now, this is hard to explain, but let's just say that you need to stop swimming once the camera directs you to see the inbounds area. You should be inside the wall, viewing the water in the beach. Now swim towards the sand without going into the water. You'll fall for a split second, but that's okay, more water is just ahead. Inside the sand, it's finally time to perfect the glitch. Hope you listened when I said to NOT KILL the Undergrunt Gunner. Swimming up to the cannon, you might know that it's solid and can't be swam under. However, you're not done. Do a dive, and you should actually be able to swim under the cannon and back up to the surface. You are now directly under the cannon, with the Undergrunt Gunner on top. Shake the remote, and you will hopefully land inside the cannon, but while the Undergrunt is on TOP of it. There you go readers, the coolest thing ever. From here, your only choice is to wind up back in bounds, but shooting from the cannon while the Undergrunt is still hijacking it is amazing and…quite hilarious.
Found my steps hard to understand? If so, I'll soon be uploading a video about how this works, and you may use that as guidance. To be honest, all this took to find was a little fun Out of Bounds exploration, and I ran into this in no time. Happy glitching!
