⛵️Everything went REALLY WRONG with our Sailboat’s rudder!! 😱#117

    January 28, 2020

Can you guess what we’re gonna talk
about this week? So, let’s get started. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been
building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patrons (Thank you!!) So we can travel around knowing that we will always have this little place that we can call home. But, guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So we are gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the house. New episode every Monday!! This is actually the second episode about our rudder. So, if you didn’t watch the first episode… you should, I guess. Click somewhere around here. Because we don’t want to give you the entire explanation on this episode about how our rudder works and how it goes down, why it goes down, because we don’t have a keel we have a centerboard. And bla bla bla… It’s easier to just watch that one and then you come back and watch this one. So now that you already watched that one, that you understand that we have a rudder that needs to go down and it needs to lift up when you lift the centreboard. Confusing. And you know already that our main problem with the rudder was that we had a lot of corrosion on the shaft. So let’s start by fixing the shaft. Yeah. That’s how bad the shaft was corroded. It was so bad that we decided to cut the flange off… and to build a new one. Remember this? Check it out. So basically we built a new piece (flange) of this part and we cut this with the lathe and now we just need to position it in place, twist it to the right position and then we’re gonna weld this whole side. And then we have a brand new piece for a long time now. I hope so. This is gonna last for a long time. Definitely. Let’s try this in place and see if this fits in place. Just a few adjustments and we’ll be fine!! So basically we first, I mean he
first did one pass with the TIG with… Just a minute. Yeah, Just so you understand he first did one pass using TIG and the TIG was just to melt both materials together
without any additional metal. It was just to guarantee that it’s sealed on both ends of the pipe. And then now he’s finishing with the MIG welding just to fill up the whole gap and penetrate the whole thing. It’s gonna make sense. Intershield 300 So with the shaft ready it was time to…? Install the rudder back in place. But before that we needed to give a proper maintenance of the system: take off the grease, change screws for
new screws… Change the rubber for new rubbers. Change the rubber for new rubbers and you know… the whole maintenance of the system so we can install it. But we can show you that on a
video clip, right? So video clip it is. All the retainers and o-rings Well, there’s something wrong here. I don’t know if you guys saw but we just installed our rudder in place. You see the rudder, right? Right in place. Sometimes the unexpected happens. Everything went wrong. When I mean wrong I’m not trying to make a drama, but actually today everything went really wrong. What happened? Come on. This is our axis. How do you call it? Our shaft. Basically… do you remember that we took this flange apart… I mean the old flange and
built this new one? And in order to do that we create this entire piece new and we welded it here, right? When we did that we gave the turner the old flange, we gave the turner the shaft and we just asked him to consider that the disk that cut, the cutting disk has two millimeters. So, he needed to consider two millimeters the cut and he needed to make of course the same length. But… We didn’t measure it, that was our mistake, our part of the mistake, we didn’t measure when he gave us the shaft. And we didn’t measure it before. But today when we installed it in place it wouldn’t go to the right place because it’s a lot longer than it was supposed to be. I don’t know if you understood how bad is this, but basically… The shaft is almost one centimeter longer than it supposed to be. And that means that all the seals that are supposed to be here now they are like here. That means here the o-ring won’t seal and that means that the shaft won’t go to the right spot, and that means that the we cannot
install the rudder in place. That’s why the shaft is here and that’s why the rudder is there. So the solution now: Pedro is gonna cut
this weld again and he’s gonna cut the shaft in the
correct length and then we are gonna install it in place. You know when you
say that you are back to square zero? We are back to square zero 5 months ago. That’s the reality… I mean not to square zero let’s say square 1. It’s like 1 step in front and 2 back. I don’t know… Guys, sorry but this episode is not
gonna end on the end. It’s gonna end a little bit before the end because it’s just… There’s nothing we can do… I mean like… It’s the first time that we actually
started editing the episode before we finished it. Half of the episode was edited
until today already. And we were like it’s just install it in place, it’s no problem. We can edit half of the episode, we finish the episode and then we have a few days to finish editing. But didn’t work this way. But, positivity. There’s a way of fixing it. We are gonna fix it. At least we have Pedro and he is gonna fix this for us. I think it’s gonna be fine in the end. Of course we’re gonna lose some
days of work. But sometimes… Don’t criticize me by saying that again, but: sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If we get sad because of that it’s not
gonna fix anything. So we need to be positive that at least there is a way of
fixing it. If it was shorter than was supposed to then we were screwed. At least it’s longer. So, longer is much much easier to fix. So, that means we need to cut short the episode and then we’re gonna show you the fixing of this in a future episode. I don’t know if next week or in a week
after. I’m not sure. We’ll see it. Hopefully next week. Hopefully next week. Let’s see if Pedro
is really busy or not to do that for us. Because we gave him a lot of work to do. We have a lot of stainless… Ops. That’s for the future. But for now… that’s it for today I guess. That’s it. We cannot do anything else for this episode. So, let’s welcome on board our new Patreons then. So, welcome on board, Gregory, Patricia, Blaz, Tim, Spatz, Phil, Oleg, Ernesto. And we also want to thank the donations through our PayPal. Thanks a lot Kylie, Sean, Jason and Paul. By the way… thanks a lot Ernesto, our new Patreon that just showed up here today with his wife and his friend and he gave us a French press. That’s so cool. We love coffee and this is
gonna be really cool for the boat. This is gonna be on the boat, Ernesto, for sure. Ee’re always gonna drink coffee from our French press. We really really appreciate it. And I guess
for this week that’s it, right? Yeah. We see you guys next week. We see you guys next Monday. Join the crew

Shipping Container – How to Install Aluminum Doors – Living Tiny Project Ep. 011

    January 28, 2020

Hello. Hello. In this episode we are gonna show how we finally install the aluminium doors in our tiny shipping container house. As you can see they are in place already. So, let’s get started. Well, you guys must be wondering what’s
the difference between doors and windows, but… There’s actually a difference. There are actually, in our case, in the kind of windows and doors we are installing, there are 2 differences. 2 main differences. The first one is that the windows come as one piece. What I mean by that is, when we bought the window came already assembling to the frame. And when you install and you apply the spray foam the window helped to hold the frame on place, and to make sure that the foam won’t bent the frame. In the doors, on the doors the frame comes separately. So, that means we need to install the frame without door and then we need to find a way to hold this frame on place, otherwise… because the frame. Otherwise is
gonna bend, because the frame is really light. And the door is really heavy. So, that… basically we cannot put the door on place before the foam is dried. Because it won’t hold, because the door is too heavy. But, if we don’t do something the frame
will get bent by the foam. So, that’s one problem. The second problem was… The floor. The floor. We installed the doors on the top of the metal plate, that is underneath of the walls of the container. But the problem is this plate is not flush with the floor, the plywood floor of the container. That means we have a gap in between the
frame and the floor. It’s not too much, it’s like 1 centimeter or maybe 2. But, that means that the frame won’t be stable on place until the foam works. So… Instead of explaining, you must you guys must be tired of listening to us. Yeah, today we’re gonna do a little bit different. Instead of talking and talking and talking we are gonna show you guys a video clip that shows everything we did to solve both problems. So, let’s get going. Now that we have spray foam on the top we just need to hold on place until gets a little bit thicker, the layer. And then, we can let it go and do the sides. We have all the windows and door now. A 100%. Well, I don’t know if it was possible to understand everything we did. But, if you have any question, or solution, another solution, another… I don’t know. You can always ask on the comment section below. We are glad to read all the comments and all the questions, and answer as many as we can. And the other thing is, many people, many people are writing comments and giving us advices about how we could do it better, the tasks we are doing. But, there is one problem… the gap in between the day we record the video and the day we post the video usually is like 1 or 2 weeks. That means if you comment on the video we did the whole task already and it’s hard to fix it. So, our suggestion is to follow us on Instagram also. Because on Instagram we have daily updates of what we are doing right now. But… and that means that if you give us suggestions on Instagram we might be able to fix what we are doing or we might be able to not get things doing in a wrong way, and we can do it right for the video. So, that will be good for us and also for us everyone watch because they better watch something better, and something more right. I mean… So. Next week we are ready to start working on the roof. So, probably we won’t finish it on time to the next video. Yeah, the thing is the roof is really big and we have a lot of for us to grind. I mean, we have a lot of rust to grind. And a lot of plates to paint. So, we will take more in a week, for sure. That means, next week it won’t be the video about what we are working right now But, the good news is we’re gonna find something else to talk about and we will have a video next Monday. For sure, we always do… next Monday. So, I’m curious about the subject. Yeah, we always find something to talk about. There is plenty to talk about, about shipping container, there is always something about. It’s true. Yeah. So, I guess we see you guys next week. Next week.

⛵️Time to fix an old problem of our abandoned sailboat #116

    January 22, 2020

Hey, guys. Do you remember that a few weeks ago we showed you the bottom of our boat painted? Yeah. But on the episodes after that one there is something weird on the paint. I don’t know if you noticed, I’m gonna show you one more time. And then you pause the video and write down if you see something weird on the paint. And then we’re gonna
explain what it is. Just to see if you can see it. If you have good eyes. Check it out. Yeah. Let us know. Just pause the video
and write down what is wrong with the paint. And that’s what we’re gonna talk
about today. So, let’s get started. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patreons (Thank you!!) So we can travel around knowing that we will always have this little place that we can call home. But guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before
we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So we are gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish
the house. New episode every Monday!! So this week we are gonna talk about the
thru-hulls. Yeah, if you can see it… I think you can see here. There is a weird gray or blueish paint around the thru-hulls, and the reason for that is because we
    painted the thru-hulls inside. That’s sound… We can take a seat because it’s a
long conversation. If you were used to an episode where we just show you as doing things, today we’re going to show a little bit of doing things but we also want to explain the reasons why we did what we did. And this takes a little longer
of talking. Sorry for that. If you don’t like talking, you just skip this video and you come back next Monday. But I think it’s important to explain this. I don’t know if we… we did explain that before. This is a metal boat and all the
thru-hulls are different if compared to a fiberglass boat. Because we have no
flange on the thru-hull. What we have is tube welded to the hull of the boat all the way higher than the waterline. And after that we have a flange and from
that flange we have a valve. So basically… in our way of seeing this is a good thing, because this means that if a valve brakes the boat won’t sink. That it’s a lot safer because it’s the all the valves are higher than the water line. And we can change valves while sailing. Not sailing with a hard weather. If we are on the water, really flat water… Because if the boat moves some water will go in but if the boat is in a flat
water we can exchange valves even on the water without a problem. But, this being
said… Right now is the time where everyone
stops working the marina, so they’re all leaving and sometimes some cars are gonna pass through. But it’s the only time we can shoot this because it’s not loud. No one is working now anymore, so… Everything in life, not everything but most
things, there is the good thing and the bad thing. Nothing is perfect, of course. This is a good thing for safety, but this is meant for a boat that is on the water, always… Not a boat that’s been sitting on a
hard for 22 years. So we had a lot of rust inside of the tubes and a lot of nest of bugs. (Wasp nests actually) Because the boat is just
sitting outside of the water, so the pipe is empty, I mean supposedly it
was empty. It was full of bees, nest and… everything you can imagine. plus rust,
plus this and plus that. So there was something… that was something that we were worrying about. Because you never know when the pipe is gonna corrode and create a hole the pipe. And that becomes dangerous. But then we found out that every one of these pipes are really really thick. They are… most of them are like half-inch thick, that means 12 millimeters for who talks in metric. So 1/2 inch thick pipe that means takes years to corrode all that. So we were really really worried about the pipes and took us like a few months to… decide what to do with them. To come up with a plan. Because everything in the project like this you need to have a plan. What are we gonna do with this, how are we gonna solve this problem? And the tube, the pipe that we were most worried about was the drain from the cockpit. (6 months before) So? We can see the top now. Check it out. This is one of the things we
don’t like about the boat. That’s a solution that I don’t… this is the
drainage hole for the cockpit. And the end of the pipe is underneath… it’s under the waterline. That means that there is always water inside of the pipe and is almost impossible to treat this pipe. And it’s not stainless steel. If it was in stainless steel it would be fine, but it’s not stainless steel. What the former owner of the boat said that they build with a really thick wall the pipe, so it would rust slowly and we take years to corrode the whole pipe. But it’s alright like 30
years old (*29), so we… I don’t know. I’m not really sure if we need to change that or not, how rust it is inside. There is rust inside, you can tell. But at least now it’s
open. So. Where’s the hole? This is the hole. This one was fine. You can see the other side. This one was locked. And now it’s opened. Come inside. I’m gonna show you something. The problem is that it’s a longer pipe. Because it goes all the way from the bottom of the cockpit to the bottom of the boat. That means the waterline, that’s the critical point, where the rust can be created and can corrode, where the water is in outside of the
water all the time and there is oxygen, we cannot reach that point. That means we
are really far like maybe a meter far from this point and we cannot see this
point. And to get worse one of the… Exhaust. Water exhaust. Water… Can you say this? Water exhausting. One of the water exhausting from the engine is in one of these pipes. See? That’s
the pipe. This goes to here. Basically the exhausting for the engine goes to the back of the boat. But as it’s too far away and you could not hear if the water is going through, the former owner did a second one just like a connection, like a T, going a little bit to a thin pipe through this drain. So it when you’re in the cockpit you can hear the water going through. That means that the engine is running water on the engine, so you can know what’s going on. So, we tried every single way of cleaning these pipes. And we didn’t even know if it was really clean. We bought a camera to see inside of the pipe. No, we won a camera. Yes, we didn’t buy it. Sorry. João, sorry,. One of our Patreons gave it to us as a gift. Check this out. That’s a camera. Then we put the camera in there. And we connect it to the phone. And then we can see inside the pipe. The light is on. So now you hold this. Curious? Let me see it. Let’s see the first surprise. It’s like an endoscopy. It’s better to treat
better this part, right? I think it might be better to treat all of them. Sometimes you don’t have a perfect solution and you need to do what you need to do. What we did to fix this problem we’re gonna show you now. We tried to brush as much
as we could inside of the pipe. And for that we used a extension for a metal brush. Like… we bought a custom-made stainless steel metal brush for the size we wanted it. We did an extension, that Pedro welded for us . And we used the drill to
drill all the way the entire pipe. And in this way we took off all the loose
material, all the loose rust. And some of the rust, of the… Before the brush Pedro made a little cup for us. Like a cup drill. And we tried to drill with this. But it didn’t work. Yeah, the cup drill would just like hit the walls and wouldn’t take off the rust enough. So I think the best way was just to use this brush. This is the small one. So, we have this brush made. It’s stainless steel. And we are clean the drains. I’m still working on the hoses, getting
some notes, and Duca is here. How it’s going? One less screw. Do you wanna check it out? We are trying to take this and this off. Now I need to organize this. That’s all the valves. I mean, we have three
extra ones on the engine, but that is to the next step. One step at time. So, we need to buy all these new because most of them are in a bad shape. And then from there we needed to decide
a painting system in order to get as close as possible to a good painting. Because we cannot guarantee is gonna be perfect, but we need to do what I need to do. So we decided… talking to the paint
technician who came up with a 3 paint… 3 coats, 3 paints system. The system basically is a paint called… I think I’m gonna write this one because I don’t remember (International Interseal 670HS). I think it’s called Interseal 670… It’s from International. It’s Interseal 670 HT, I guess that’s the name. So basically the reason why we used this first layer of paint is because it’s a really really good rust protective coat. It’s a coat that protects from
rust. And we can use it even if we have a small rust, right? International says is a tolerant to rusted surface. That means that if we have some rust on the surface it will seal, it will encapsulate the rust. So that’s the reason why we used this paint. And the result is really really good. And it was a really thick thing paint. Yeah, and it’s really really strong. We let some paint fall
on a hose on the top of our just regular engine hose, and it’s really hard to take
it off. I almost broke my nails today trying to take a small piece
because it’s so strong, and we really like it. But the only problem is that we
cannot sand inside of the pipe, that means that we need to do a 3 layer
system straight on one after the other, just waiting for it to dry on the touch. So instead of a full dry in sand and then apply another paint, we needed to wait a few hours until you touch and it’s not sticky anymore that much. And then we painted the next paint. And how we did that was… First actually we closed the bottom of the boat and then we used some thinner just to clean the surface, so we filled the whole pipe with thinner, and then we took it off, twice each
and every one of the pipes. Then we wait until the thinner dries. We applied this
other international paint. The one I’ve just talked about. And then after this one
we wait for a few hours, and then we painted with Intertuf (Intertuf vynil primer/sealant), the same one of the bottom, the brown one. That basically it’s a paint to prepare the surface for the antifouling paint. So, we did… the treatment for the steel, for rust. Then the primer for the antifouling and then we give the antifouling. (International Intermarine anti-fouling) We decided to do all the 3 layers
because now we can put the valves back in place. (New stainless steel valves) Because we did all these from the
top to the bottom. Yeah, the way we did is just… we close the bottom, fill all the way to the top, wait a little bit until the paint impregnates in the whole pipe and then take off. And in this way we have… I think we have the best possible solution for now. Of course the best solution would be to have a sand blasting machine with a nozzle that for example… This is a nozzle and instead of sandblasting in this way sandblast around the pipe. But we don’t have this
here. We don’t have the solution. We don’t have the machine to rent or anything. So we need to do the way we think it’s gonna last for a while. I actually think it’s gonna last
for a long time. Once we go to the water all the pipes are gonna be full of water. the only bad ones are the drain from the cockpit, that we have half full half not. And for that we need to take the chance and in a year if we see we have problems
we maybe cut the pipe and exchange the pipe for stainless steel or something like that. We don’t want to do this, but… By the way, sorry for an episode that we just talk talk and talk. If we don’t do that now we will lose this explanation because we are moving on the boat and then there is no space on the next videos to talk about the drain. And that’s something that we took a lot of thinking to ended up doing
that. It took a lot of effort of a lot of people. We had some people visiting the boat and checking it, and a lot of people’s opinion. And I think it’s something really important on this boat. A critical moment. And we’ve just decided this after painting the hull. So that’s way it’s like this now. We should have done that *after we
painted the hull, the bottom part of hull. But as she said we didn’t know…
we had no solution until then. For the painting system. We were still deciding the painting system for this. That’s why. But it’s no problem because now we’re gonna just sand around the end of the pipe. And we’re gonna treat just the around really well and then we can paint the antifouling paint. I think I did it. 12 minutes. It wasn’t that long,I mean 12
minutes on the camera. It’s just something that I needed to explain, I wanted to explain it. This is probably a boring episode. Sorry for that. She is gonna say don’t say sorry. But I want to open something that we received, that someone made special made for us. He is waiting for… I’m excited to open it and… She is trying to open it for a week now (3 weeks actually). And I said “No, just when we record the episode”. Since last year I’m waiting, since Christmas. I said “no, we need to see the real expression of opening it for the first time”. It’s not real if you
open it before. We’re gonna pause the video, so I’m gonna get the gift and we are gonna show you. Where is it? Thanks, Daryl. I have no words to
describe this. We’re really excited to see… She’s so excited that she’s gonna
get hurt. That’s so cool. It’s so cute. There is something here. That’s so cool. I don’t know if you can read it. It says: Good luck with all
of your adventures!! Daryl Stokes That’s so cool. Thanks a
lot, Daryl. We loved it. Thanks so so so much. We loved the gift. And we’re gonna put somewhere on the
boat, we’re gonna put the old name of boat, so we can remember that this
boat once was called Abutre. That’s so cool. Thanks so much. And if you guys don’t know, Daryl Stokes also has a channel. That is funny because this was a surprise for us. He did a video on his channel
building this and then someone told us. Someone sent as a message saying: oh, I
just found out your channel because Daryl made a sign for you guys. And then we discovered our gift that was supposed to be a surprise before. But it was a surprise because we didn’t know about this. He’s building a camper van. Yes, we are gonna link… on the description we’re gonna put the link of his youtube channel he he built this. That’s so cool. But I think I, not us, I talk too much already today, right? Let’s welcome on board
our new Patreons. So, welcome on board, Gary, Bill, Robert, Christoph, Paul, Louis, Bill. And also thanks a lot for the donations through out PayPal. Thanks a lot, Ilan and Uwe. So, we see you guys next week. We see you guys next Monday. Join the crew

⛵️We are so Excited!!! 🎉We are finally done installing our sailboat’s hatches!!! 😍#115

    January 14, 2020

Third day of work. We couldn’t finish it last night because it was too dark. And now it’s time to finish it. Hopefully. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patrons (Thank you!!) So we can travel around knowing that we will always have this little place that we can call home. But guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So, we are gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the
house. New episode every Monday!! Cleaning the dust. We’ve been away from the boat for like 5 days, maybe 7 days and the dust of other boats is just
amazing. Check it out. That’s the problem when you are in a working marina. Working marina is just… people are working all around. You need to clean the boat. That’s it. So it’s time for some cleaning. That’s it. Yeah. Now that we cleaned the deck it’s about time to? Install the hatches. Or portlights, I’m not sure. This is a portlight… Portholes? Yeah, the side ones that open. And then after that we’re gonna start
installing the hatches itself. We are anxious to see the boat with 100% of the hatches installed. But as we have 12 to do we’re gonna do it in turns. First we’re gonna start with this one. And for that we still need to sand a
little bit here, apply the… But before that we need to show them how we installed the acrylic on the top of this. We can not skip steps. That’s true. Because right now the hatches are ready to be installed but we didn’t show you how we installed the acrylic. (Yes, we showed it last week – you can see it here) That’s a lot of work. So let’s start with the acrylic and then we’re gonna come to the installation of the hatches. Contact glue We need to wait 15 minutes for this (to dry). So meanwhile we are putting some tapes on the windows (hatches). Is it hard, babe? Up side down is tricky sometimes. So we are preparing the portholes for the primer. Yeah… we are preparing it to install the… To paint the primer so we can install it with
the Sikaflex. Because Sikaflex with primer works so much better. So, we want to have primer. You got the point, right? It’s gonna take a while until we finish this. I’m doing this and Duca is doing that one. Primer time. Everything we do we have primer
in between. That’s just the way it is. But this was expensive but we are using
for a while already and we still have a lot. That’s pretty good at least. Let’s do this. Now is the tricky moment. If we can do these ones, the side ones, we can do the rest. These ones are the
tricky ones. But we’re gonna manage to do them. We are installing our third porthole. We are learning. It’s actually a good result. Excited. It’s actually easier to install
than the portlights. Yeah. Because we can communicate. That’s true. The sunset. We still have one to install and that’s it for today. Because the sun is going out and then
it’s really hard to install this. So, this is the last one. Almost done for today. Yep. This is really cool. Check it out. You can see the sunset. The view… The view is not the best one yet, there is just a motorboat next to us that be sitting here for a long time. But, in the future hopefully we’re gonna have some water, clean water here, sunset right on the ocean. Dream is for free still. Yeah. Let’s keep going. Stop dreaming and keep working. Second day of installation of hatches. Yes. Almost done with this job. It’s simple but it’s long… it takes so long to get all the holes right. We’re just making sure we have the right screw (screw thread) I mean, the right… you got the point. Because the paint is really really thick, so… We need to be really really careful. Meanwhile… I’m organizing these things to glue the rubber. Hello. Hello. Second part. Third day of work. We couldn’t finish it last night because it was too dark. And now it’s time to finish it. Hopefully. Yesterday it started to
get really dark. And black Sikaflex in a white deck with white hatches during the night… it’s not a good idea. And mosquitoes. And mosquitoes, yeah. So, now we need to clean the mess. Now that it’s dried. So, we need to clean this. I can use it like this for now. So yesterday… This is the result. done during the night. We are pretty excited with the result actually. It’s not bad. That’s the mess. We are still cleaning it. But, at least it’s in place. So far we did 4, right? (Actually 4+4=8) We hope we don’t have any leaks. Yeah, hopefully we don’t have any leaks,
because I don’t want to do this again anytime soon. Check this out. We have this one… And we have this one, this one, this one, and this one. And we still have another
3 to go, not 2. The huge one, another one of the big ones, and another huge one. The entry door. Yeah, that’s the entry door. So far
excited? Yeah. I’m really… I think I’m clean now. Taking this off. It’s terrible. It’s like a challenge… to install white hatches in a white deck with black Sikaflex. Why we are not using the white Sikaflex? We don’t really like the white because
it’s always… it always gets dirty and yellow and with like a lot of… Like this one. It’s a bad job. Don’t show them, babe. This is a bad job, it doesn’t look good because we have a cover on the top of that,
so we didn’t care about it in. By that time we didn’t know how to use soap. Yeah, we didn’t use enough soap to smooth the Sikaflex. But these ones are getting good, so far so good. I mean, it’s not perfect, it’s just impossible to do it perfect because we have no experience with that. But at least we don’t believe
it’s gonna leak. And that’s… You are dirty here. Yeah, it’s time to go for lunch. Hatch of the day. The huge one. Actually, this one went easier than we
thought. We just forgot to record it. It went smooth in place. Taking off that I almost killed myself. We were trying this in place and we were walking… I mean I was walking with this huge one by myself through that hatch. And it was
covered with one of those papers, and I stepped right in the middle. And I just twisted my ankle. And your arm? But it’s all good. I almost got seriously hurt, but it’s all good. The first bad thing that has happened here. The first job accident. Labor accident. Yeah, the first real one. I hope it’s the last one. So, we still need to put this one in
place, and the entry door. And then we’re gonna be done with this. Why we are not using polycarbonate? That’s a good question. I think this one scratches… it’s harder to scratch. I mean, if it scratch you can still polish it
and get scratch out. And it’s cheaper, it’s 5 times cheaper than… Yeah, other than the price… I don’t remember to be honest, it was 5 months ago that we decided it. But I remember that in between all the goods and bads we preferred acrylic. I just don’t remember the reasons. I think it was price. And I think it was the possibility of polishing it. You are tired. So, why did we paint the hatches with spray gun
instead of powder coating? Because if we wanted to powder coat we couldn’t anodize. And at first we thought we were just gonna anodize, not paint at all, just anodize it. And if you anodize you need to choose in between powder coating or anodizing and we prefer anodization. We thought we’d prefer anodization. But now that we didn’t like the anodization we paint on the top of it and then if we paint on the top of it we would we would lose a 100% percent of the galvanization, I mean the anodization. if we powder coat it. Because they need to give a
bath of chemicals. So in this way we painted it but we didn’t lose 100% of the anodization. And also we filled the little holes that we had. Yeah, that’s true. Any other question? Just leave the comment below. Finally, we installed all the hatches in place. But now we need to install these little things. And also we need to install this and all the finishings. We have a few finishings to do. But still, it’s a really good
accomplishment. Now it’s about time to clean this little thing that goes on their hatches. So we need to take this apart of this. And to use kerosene, stainless steel cleaning some brushes. So, let’s get started. And now the final piece. So, what is this for? This is basically for ventilation of the boat. So, the air comes inside from here. And the water just stays here. It’s gonna just leak from here. Hopefully the water won’t do this way. But supposedly this is gonna let air in but not water in. And that’s a really good thing. If there’s a big wave I think the water ca go inside, because there is a thing that we can lock it, block… There’s… you can see this screw here… with this screw we can put a lid, a plug. We can put a plug underneath, so if we are in a really really bad weather, that we have waves crashing all the time on the deck, we just closed it to make sure no water goes in. But in a regular situation this is a way of closing the boat, but at the same time letting the air to be exchanged with the outside. It’s time for some water. Finally, we’ve been waiting to put some
water on the deck for a long long time and now we finally have hatches. So we can clean the deck. And today’s the perfect day because it… today… It’s so hot. It’s hard to talk even. The sensation today is 47 degrees Celsius (117F), the weather sensation. As you can tell. The real temperature must be like 38 or 37C (100F). Around that. Perfect day for some water. So we’re gonna do some washing and then we’re gonna show you the result of the hatches. That’s just a sneak peek. Let’s do it. I cannot work with water today. Because… That means I’m just filming today. And someone else is working. So what do you guys think? It’s pretty good. The deck slowly is getting in shape. We have almost everything we need on the deck
already. But there is something… I don’t know if you noticed it. There’s a few things missing that we took off the deck. But that’s for future episode. A tip: they are made out of stainless steel. You told them almost everything. It’s just a tip. There are a lot of stainless steel missing on the deck. And that’s for a reason, because we’re… We’re gonna talk about that in a future episode because we didn’t finish it yet. But so far… check it out. We have even lids. That’s pretty good. So, we have all the hatches done, all the lids of lockers done. What else? We just need to put the
door in place. The entry door, yeah. We didn’t put the entry door in place because we are working on inside and it’s a really really dirty job. The tank. Don’t tell
anyone. We’re working on the tank (Diesel tank). So we don’t want to have the entry door in place so we don’t get the entry door dirt. So right now it’s off but it’s ready to be installed. But that’s it for
this week. It was a long week because it’s been hard to work this way. Poor, babe. Took a while for me to go to the doctor because I thought it was gonna get better on its on. But it was just swelling, swelling, swelling and then I went to the doctor this week and he said… The good thing is that it’s not broken. We took an x-ray, it’s not broken. But, in order to the swelling to… In order to heal… In order to heal he told me to use this for 2 weeks. And that’s gonna be a painful 2 weeks
because it’s really hard to walk on the deck like… How is “esquilo em Inglês”? Squirrel. Our squirrel is… She say that I’m a little squirrel, that just keep walking
everywhere and now the squirrel needs to sit down and that’s not that easy. But for this week that’s it because we’re just rambling and talking too much as usual. But we are really happy with all the
hatches in place and now we can wash the deck. And it look really good,
even the air exchange thing. The ventilation. It
looks really good. We like it and we like the color of the acrylics and it’s just… I don’t know… We are in love. It seems like the boat is getting ready and that’s pretty good. But now we need to welcome
on board our new Patreons for this week. So, welcome on board, Kyle, Gerard, Tracey, Matthew, Will, Titus, Craig, Stephane, Mark, Michael, Alexander, Emannuel, Antony. And we also want to thank the donations through our PayPal. Thanks a lot Michael, John, Cora and Michael. Guys, thanks so so much. We really really
appreciate your support. And we see you guys next week. We’ll see you guys next Monday. Join the crew

    ⛵️Restoration of our sailboat’s hatches! Part 2 #114

    January 10, 2020

This is part 2 of a video of us
installing the hatches. That’s where it gets tricky. It’s tricky because you have like a fresh white hatch that you need to work with black Sikaflex and black
silicone. It can become a mess. But the black Sikaflex we are becaming pro at this. Not pro, but we”re getting better. Let’s put
this way: we’re getting better. One day we’re gonna become pros. Now we’re just getting better. But I think the result is pretty good. I’m not afraid of working with Sikaflex anymore. That’s really good. Today. If she waits a week
and then we’re gonna be afraid again. Because we forget it. Yeah. We learn and we forget, and we learn and we forget. That’s how it just keep going. Let’s get started. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patrons (Thank you!!) So we can travel around knowing that we will always have a little place that we can call home. But guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So, we’re gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the house. New episode every Monday!! Today we have a surprise. Could you grab a chair? This is gonna take a while. Do you remember the old hatches? Check this out. Exciting day. We didn’t open it yet. Brand new hatches. I mean, restored hatches. That looks just amazing. We are gonna start installing
this. But in order to do that what’s the first step? We need to do something like this. And like this. Basically we need to install the acrylic. That’s the small one. Basically we need to glue this in place and to do that there are so many
small steps. To be honest we have never done this before, as usual. We are a little bit nervous about it. Postponing it as usual. We’ve been waiting for this for like a month, because we were afraid of starting it but at one point we need to do it of course. But we had some help. We have a friend that we met here in the boatyard that works doing that professionally and he gave us class. We can show you just a flash of the class. So this day during the night he taught
us the entire process and we did this sample one. And he went through all every single steps we need to install this in a good way. And hopefully we’re going to be able to repeat what he had done. Theory is always easy, in practice it’s not
that easy. At least… Ups, sorry. We are also waiting for the weather, because we cannot do this with the humidity that we have now. Right now. Basically the first step is to create a mask. We are gonna paint this on black, so when you see from the outside instead of seeing… because we are gonna use the double-sided tape to glue this in place and in order not to see the double-sided tape we are gonna have a mask, a black mask. So you’re gonna see
just like… You know? Like cars… They have on their windshields they have like a black mask around the glass? That’s what we’re gonna do. But first you need to tape to make sure we do it right. Properly. Next step is to create the mask with this tape. But we had a problem when we did the portlights. That when we do a mask with this plastic underneath all these small gaps… the primer goes inside and then it screw the job. So we’re gonna take off this part of the plastic and then we’re gonna do the mask, otherwise we’re gonna do a huge mistake again. Trust us. It won’t work. That’s just the way it is. So. Second step. We need to try to find the
center of this. We need to try to aline this… the position that is… The gaps are the same, like here here here and there. Close to the same. I think
that’s good enough. Then you get some tapes. The reason for that is because we want
to have a double tape. And now the trickiest moment. If she did it right… Next step. So basically this is ready to apply
the masking paint here. And the reason why we have 2 tapes is because after we apply the first masking tape we take this tape off. And then we have another
tape to apply the primer for the Sikaflex. It’s like a lot of steps. But at one
day we’re gonna get there. One day. We don’t need to show you all the same. But we can do a time lapse. Maybe. Time lapse it is. We did it. This batch. That is the last one. Check it out. We have all them ready for the primer. Not the primer. I mean they’re ready for the black… how do you call it? Black masking paint. You’re gonna see it. It’s gonna make sense. But right now all we do is to paint that and wait for 24 hours. But I think it’s too late for the paint to dry, so we’re gonna wait for tomorrow that it’s probably sunny. Hopefully. It’s around 5PM now. And then we’re gonna do this first step of many. So, we see you guys later. So, it’s about time to apply the black
mask on the acrylics. Basically this is just a paint that seems like a windshield of a car around that’s black to protect the glue that holds it in place. So this is the first time of course we do this. It would be easier if we’d order the acrylic with this already. We could but we didn’t know abou it before. So we need to do it. And let’s try it. Let’s see what happens. Finally a sunny day. Now I’m ready. That’s why we need to finish the hatches
because right now our door is this and the mosquitos are going crazy at this time. That’s it. We’re gonna wait it to dry now. We see you guys
later. Let’s take this out. So the idea is to mark where we need to
put the rubber and the screws. Because it’s really hard to get exactly
the position because this… the rubber, the gasket needs to fit inside of the wood, in between the wood and the frame. And it’s a tricky position, it’s hard to find a
screw. So now we have this blank nice canvas. We can draw around… And now the holes. You got the point, right? She didn’t know if it was gonna work.
Look at that! Almost perfect. There’s a tiny little corner that we need to fix. But we have a hatch now. We have a long way to have a hatch. We can sleep on the dark now. We have a blackout, not a hatch. We gonna leave like this I guess. So, basically this was just to make the
screws in the right spot and now we just need to mark and cut the inside part. But seems really good. I like it. Let’s go outside to check how it looks. So we are doing kind of an offset because we want to have Sikaflex between the hole and the gasket. This is just a primer for the 3M tape,
double-sided tape. We’re gonna actually glue the acrylic on the hatch with double-sided tape. That’s the idea. It’s gonna be tricky, but we’re gonna manage to do it I guess. So, a new task to learn today. So we made a test. It’s just to guarantee
that we’re doing the right thing. So, this one we have primer, this one we
don’t have primer. So without primer I can take it off, with primer it’s impossible. It’s just really hard to take off so… The primer works. Good news. Every single day we learn a new task. That’s good. It’s weird: this dries really really really quick. Now is the tricky moment. The moment we’ve been waiting for… a long time. At some point we need to glue the
acrylic to the hatch. Now we have already the primer on the hatch, we have to tape on the acrylic. We’re gonna use this. GoPro suction thing to hold this and to
locate it in place. I think it’s gonna work. You’re gonna see it. I’m just talking and talking, so I don’t need to do it. Postponing the moment. Just testing. Now it’s for real. No way back now. Scary to see the other side. We can have a surprise, a good or a bad one. Because we have double-sided tape and we don’t want the double-sided tape to go outside of the frame. We will see it now. It’s not bad. Here is a little bit, but we can take it off with a utility knife. Just a little bit. But it’s fine. We can do it with utility knife. I think it’s really good. Now we just need to press it a little bit longer. So this one is gonna be here. Really soon, right? Hopefully. The first step is done. It’s really good actually.
I like it. Really really well. Better than I thought. I guess that’s it. We are done, right? For now. Not really. There are so many steps involved in
installing and fixing the hatches in place. Rafa, you do a lot of work. Yeah, our friend that works with that he works a lot. But he also works a lot because we
call him every 5 minutes. Every time we have a new task we call him to make sure we’re doing the right thing. And he’s helping all the way through. You are awesome. So now we need to do the finishings here inside and on the outside. So, basically on the outside we are gonna use industrial, black structural silicone. And that’s because it’s easier to work, it dries out slower and it’s easier to have a good finishing. And inside… Sikaflex. And after that we’re almost done. We just need to install it in place, that’s gonna be another huge task, but… No, we need to glue the rubber here with contact glue. We are waiting from another friend that we’ve just met because of the channel (Thanks a lot, Lucas) like a week 2 weeks ago. He’s in the next marina and he is bringing it from the big city for us, from São Paulo. So tomorrow we’re gonna get this… That’s baby steps. You need to think one step at a time. Right now we’re really good. Guys, I’m trying to work. He is just… Watching Instagram. Just check this one. It’s just… This guys is crazy. Too crazy. It’s true though. Don’t you wanna work? I need to rest a little bit, I’m tired. We were gonna start working, but… We were ready to start applying primer, but primer not now. We’ve just received some… it’s still warm. There is a C. It’s can be meat, because meat in Portuguese is carne. This is from the son of the owner
of the restaurant here in the marina, he’s the cooker, the chef and he watches the channel, he likes what he watches and he brings some treats sometimes. Just some… just to make us happy and we can work better. Now we are gonna eat to work better. This is really good, this is banana… banana something… Thanks a lot, Luciano. It’s shrimp I guess. Shrimp? The C is camarão, that is shrimp. That’s really really really good. But I think we’re gonna go eat outside, because here we don’t want to get the boat dirt with food. So, we don’t want cockroaches on the
boat. Let’s go outside. Sikaflex primer Let the fun begin. You can see the next one. No, you need to
see the first one. Be careful there. The problem here was the primer. It’s always the primer. The primer got these little things there. I don’t know how to fix this. How not to do this. Is the tape. Now that the Sika is dried. It looks really good, actually. It’s better than I thought. Look at that. But now we need to do this join. The other one. And for that? We are gonna use Downsil. That’s actually a structural silicone. It’s a little bit different to the Sikaflex because this is gonna take longer to dry. But it’s supposedly better on the sun. And it’s easier to work… They say, right? Let’s hope Rafa is right. So basically now we are gonna do
the finishing, the good finishing around the hatches. So we need to apply primer and wait for 30
minutes before we apply the Dowsil. That’s black industrial silicone. Structural industrial silicone. Time for the truth. We need to start
applying the silicone. This time it’s not Sikaflex. This time Industrial structural black silicone. Supposedly really good and really good on the sun. New challenge. We’re gonna trust
our friend that said that this is really good. New challenge every day. That’s the trick that our friend said
that once you start you never stop doing this. It’s not that you never… you
cannot stop. It’s not that start you: wow, I’m never gonna stop it. No. If you start you cannot give a break. That’s what she means. He said if you are tired just
keep going. Do not stop it. Not bad. Check this out. For the first
one… for the first one is really really good. Even the black detail on it
inside. Look at that. Proud? Really good. 100% done. We just need to install it in place. Oh, no. We need the small gasket. A small detail. It’s done. Remember that we say that plans always change? Of course this week wasn’t different. We were supposed to finish installing all the hatches. And we started doing well. We actually installed more than half of the hatches. Oh, by the way… we’re not on our boat, as you can tell. That’s someone else boat. It’s our friend’s boat. But we have a reason for that. The reason for that
is because we had the first bigger working accident. He twisted… I don’t know if you can see on camera but this is really really swollen. And the problem
was that we were installing the hatches and I walked to the tip (bow) of the boat
with the big hatch in my hand. And on the way back I didn’t see one of the hatches that wasn’t in place and I stepped on the hole of the hatch. It was… it could be worse, let’s put this way. The tip of my toe just touch the frame, that
means I didn’t fall straight down. But once that happened I twisted my ankle and it’s being already like 4 days editing, sitting… So, he is resting, editing videos. I’m working on this boat helping our friends and working a little bit painting the wood from the anchor locker. The problem is that we are planning on starting painting the diesel tank and if we paint the diesel tank that means we cannot stay inside of our boat because the smell is gonna be strong. So, they offered for us to stay with them here in the next marina. And it’s good to stay with
friends. So we moved to their boat and now I’m just stuck here. And I cannot move that much. The good thing is that they have light, water, gas. Yeah, we have food, hot food. They are really nice. Thanks a lot, Juh and Fred. It helps a lot to have good food when you can not move that much. They are cleaning the boat. They are working where around. Yeah, they are working around. It’s fine. Right now I’m just sitting with my feet on the top of the couch and just waiting for the foot
to get better so we can go back to the hatches. We still have just 2 to install just the entry door and one more. Out of 12 we installed 10 and that’s really good progress. But we don’t want to show you half done. So we decided to leave that for
next week, because otherwise we won’t have an episode, because I’m gonna stay here for another at least 5 days I guess to get better and to be able to walk. Right now I’m only allowed to go down the boat once a day in the morning, so I can take my shower. That’s the only time I’m allowed to out of the boat. Because this boat is really high off the ground, it’s like 4 meters or something with a huge ladder. We are planning on doing a tour of our “hotel” on the next video. We are saying that they are doing their first…. because they are fixing up this boat and in the future they’re gonna do a charter. Not only charter,
but they’re gonna do charter sometimes. So we are the first charter on the boat
yard while they refit the boat. I’m rambling already, as usual. Let’s talk about things
about the hatch. What do you think about the Downsil? I don’t know if you guys understood, but we made the decision of instead of
gluing with Sikaflex the acrylic in place as usual you do, we decided to use
3M double-side tape and then the seal… Because the 3M double-side tape is not
water protective, there’s not protection for water. So we need to seal it, so the water
won’t get to the tape. And to seal we use black Industrial silicone, structural silicone. The reason why we used that: first because a friend of ours that work doing that said it would be easier to work with. And also because it has a stronger protection from the sun. In our case we don’t think it was easy to work with. For us at least. There is the good side that it gets dry slower, so that means you have more
time to to get the good finishing. Sikaflex is quick, in 5 minutes if you
didn’t get it right you are in trouble. And for someone that never done this before to have more time to work it’s better. But at the same time it’s really liquid,
so it’s good because it actually goes through all… it penetrates really well. But at the
same time was tough to… You get dirty really easy. It was not that
much easier to work. For us. Just on our experience of course. But at the same time the result, the rubber that creates is really really strong. It’s not that dark, it’s a little bit gray, dark gray. We really love the color of the
finishing and we like the bright of the finishing, that means less dust gets
stuck on the silicone than on the Sikaflex, and that’s really good. Other than that? Other than that we have a small problem with the gun that you apply… how do you call? The applier? The thing that you apply the silicone. Because it’s so liquid that on
the back it would just… The pressure… I think there is so much internal pressure inside of the bottle that instead of going everything through the tip, some would go through the back. A lot. So, we lost like maybe not half, like 20 or 25 percent of the bottle we would lose through the back. I don’t know if that
was our applier there wasn’t good. But, it happened. But I think we are talking to much already. As usual. It’s about time to welcome on board our new Patreons for this week. So, welcome on board, David, Wayne, Juan, William, Cora, Coeptis, Tparent, Samuel, Jay, Gregory, Bram, Jo&Gi, Ulf, Michael. And we also want to thank the donations throw our PayPal. So thanks a lot, Michael, Thomas, Steven and Mike. Thanks a lot, guys. We really
really really appreciate your support. And we see you guys next week. We see you guys next Monday.

Shipping Container Wooden Door Part 2/2 – Living Tiny Project Ep. 007

    January 5, 2020

As you can see we do have a door now. Well, as promised before, this week’s episode is gonna be all about the… how we installed this wooden door on our shipping container house. Actually, this is the second part of the episode. That’s true. If you didn’t watch part one, that’s how we installed the metal frame and how we cut the container and all that, you can click on the link below, on the description below there is a link. Or here. Or here, yeah. So now that, I guess, you stopped, you watched the first part, let’s talk about the second part. So, the first part is all about the preparation of the wooden door. So, it’s about the sanding, painting, assembling the… the metal parts. The metal parts. And the second part, how we installed the wooden frame on the metal frame. So… And how we solved the problem. Oh, yeah. That’s true. if you watched the first part, you know that we had a problem, we had a gap to solve in between here. But, let’s talk about that later on this episode. Yeah. So, let’s go to the part one. Now he are going to try on and see if everything works. Is that done? Mission accomplished? First step accomplished. We still have to do the little… how you call it? You know. The other side, the other metal pieces. Ok. Let’s keep working then. Well. Now, next step. I still don’t know the name of this part. I think it’s hinge. Something like that. So. We need to carve a spot for this to be flush with the wood, and position on place. So… Let’s get to it. Let’s get it started. So, this one was way quicker. Yeah. I guess the trick is because before… at first I do like a deeper cut, straight cut, and then I take off the material like this. Yeah. If I do in the right thick… thickness… the first cut makes a lot easier. Then just like keep going down
like this. So, you just put down like this and then you just take off like this, I guess. Good. Yeah. Indonesian style. It’s pretty cool how last year I had one day of wood carving class, back in Indonesia, if you didn’t watch that it’s gonna be
the link for the top here or in the description below, and the one class that I had actually helped me a lot to do this part of this task. Yeah. It’s crazy because just to learn the position of the chisel. And why are you using this side of the tool? I guess, you see, there is like this angle and this straight angle, Yeah. If I do like this tends to go up and then I don’t cut too much. if I do like this tends to go down and I
end up cutting too much. So. it’s less risky to do like this. Like always the last one is the best one. We are ready to do some sanding and then we can finally paint the door. Which color? I don’t know yet. Yeah. We don’t know about the color yet. But, we’ll eventually get there. But first, we’re gonna try to build a support, so we can hang the door from the side, so we can paint without touching the floor. Let’s try to do it. So now that we installed all the metal
parts, I guess we can go to painting. Yeah. She doesn’t like to paint. But, we need to do it. Actually, when you paint you waste a lot of paint and material, material in general. So, I’m too environmental for that. Yeah. The truth is painting is never really green. Yeah. I mean, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. This door is gonna be outside and in Brazil we have a really humid weather it rains a lot, and it’s.. I don’t know, some people say that we should just leave the wood as it is, But, I think wouldn’t last for too long the door. I know. Just, the climate here doesn’t help. Maybe if we were in a different country would help. Maybe in another part of the country, because Brazil is too big. Yeah. But, basically we needed to paint. And that’s how we did it. Painting is always a mess and what I really don’t like about painting is that you need to do quick. And do something quick when you don’t know what you’re doing is stressful. It’s really stressful. And she always get mad at me, because I’m not too nice when I’m, you know, in a hurry. And I don’t know if the compressor is gonna just… the paint is gonna dry on the compressor… And when I finally put the camera on place he moves around. Yeah. So that means, we don’t have too much footage about painting. We always have some footage, but not all, because it’s just, I don’t know, it’s just a crazy moment to paint. But somehow we managed to get to this point. You are getting better, actually. We still need to do some finishing on the painting. But for now it’s gonna stay at it is. Do you remember that he had a problem on the first part of this episode? Yeah. We thought the gap in between the wooden frame and the metal frame would be a big problem to solve, because we did a mistake on the size, I mean, how wide was a metal frame. In the end, actually… it was… not a problem at all. It was actually a solution. Yeah. It’s funny how sometimes we need to do things wrong, even though we know it’s wrong. Don’t get confused. What I mean by that, is that I know how we should prepare a wooden frame to be installed, a door wooden frame to be installed. I have seen many videos, I have seen
people doing it, I never done it. So, this frame we started doing in the proper way. As you remember when we built the metal frame around the door we actually built the wooden frame and made sure it was squared as you’re supposed to do. We just nailed a few pieces of wood to make sure the square would stay on place. But, after that, the door, the wooden parts, stayed in another container for like… A month or 2. Yeah, maybe 2. Yeah. The main problem is that we had other stuff to do, like the ceiling, the other stuff that you saw already. So, while we did that we storage, we stored the door the door and the frame on another shipping container, that is always closed. So, it’s really hot inside and here is humid. There is no insulation there. There’s no insulation and here is hot and humid. So, of course after a month and a half or two the frame was up straight anymore. Before you guys say anything, we know this is not the right way to do it. So, basically the square we had was not a square anymore. So we decided to do in a different way, that’s not the right way. But, worked for us. Yeah. We took all the pieces of wood that we put, we nailed there, we took off. And then we assembled… So, yeah. We basically we had a door that was all loose and not, it was not straight at all, the frame. This was the gap we were talking about. In having this gap helped us to push and pull the wooden frame as much as we want, to whatever direction. So, in end was really good to have this gap, because we got to make the wooden frame straight again. So, what we did, we cut a few pieces of wood and whenever we need the wooden frame to stay on that place and not go any further back, we is slip this wooden piece in between the frame, the wooden frame and the metal frame, and then we screwed right on the middle. So, that means that the wooden frame
could not go further than that. Yeah. And whenever we wanted the wooden frame to go further, because was banded on this direction and we wanted to do like this we didn’t put the wooden piece there, so, we just screw and with this screw we could control how deep we would put the screw. And now, I guess it’s squared. It’s not, of course, never is 100% squared, but it’s enough. We do have a door now. It’s actually really tight. Great. I can lock the door now. But, somehow we managed to put all the parts together and now we have, basically a door. And then we put the foam, the expensive one. expended expenss… It’s expensive as well. It’s also expensive. But, expansive… expanded. I don’t know. The foam that you just… expand it. That expands. So, now we have the frame on place, we have the foam on place and the door is finally on place. So, last thing we need to do is to give the last layer of painting. So, we need to sand it again, to fill the gaps again, sand again. And then decide the color and we can paint the door. And we didn’t do the finishing of the frame on the side because we are gonna do insulation here. So, in the future when we do the insulation we’re gonna do the finishing. For now it’s just gonna be a what it is. Yeah. So, … Next week we’re going to talk about how we installed aluminum windows in this shipping container. Because that’s the only door that’s gonna be a wooden door, all the windows, the other windows, that we have another 8 windows. And another two doors they’re gonna be made out of aluminium. Yeah. And glass. And glass, of course. So, next week is gonna be the part one of the installation of aluminum windows and doors on the shipping container. I hope so. So, see you guys next week. So, now let’s talk to camera 2. Camera 2 It was nice to use you for the first time. Yeah. I really like you. You are nice. Not really, the menu is a little bit confusing. You’re a small, you are light, you look cool. But your menu is terrible. Yeah. That is the first time we are using this camera. What else should we talk about?

Shipping Container Aluminum Windows Installation in 5 steps – Part 2/2 – Ep 010

    January 5, 2020

Hi! Hello. We are back! Yep. 2018 now. Yeah. So, this episode is gonna be divided in two parts. The first one is the painting and the preparation of the steel frame. And then, second part finally we’re gonna
install… As you can tell we did already. the aluminium windows on these steel
frames. So, let’s go. Let’s get to it. It’s funny how sometimes a simple task can become a long and complicated one. Yeah. At first we thought painting was gonna be really easy. But, actually, so far it was the hardest thing we’ve done. And that all started because of choosing paint without knowing what to do. Let me explain that. When we bought the shipping container, most of the companies that sell shipping containers here they… in the south of Brazil where we live, they also sell modifications if you want.
And most of them use a kind of primer called red lead. And we thought that was the right one we were supposed to use as everyone used that one. I’m not saying it’s a bad primer of course, but there are much better choices. So, when we started to cut the shipping container and start to weld the frames on place, We thought: this is the one you’re gonna use. So, the plan was: let’s first cut the East container, that means this one, and we intended to finish these frames and
these windows and doors so we could close and use this as a shop, like a workshop. And storage. And then we could do the rest. Yeah, and storage of tools. So, we did that and we use this kind of primer for this part of the shipping container. But, when we finish it we found out that we could use better ones. So, we went to a paint store, where they sell paints for cars, and they say, they said like a really really good one you could use would be epoxy primer, But there was one problem: That we could not give a second layer, a second coat of primer on these windows with epoxy, because we use this red lead first. They don’t match together. So, we found out a third kind, that’s called zinc chromate, that you can actually use on the top of this. So, these frames, they have… let’s count. Two coats of red lead. And then we found out that we could use something better So, we sand it a little bit, took off the rust that came back because we didn’t paint right away with the final color. So, that means the rust came back in the few spots. To make sure we don’t leave any rust on place we applied some rust converter, the one that converts rust into primer. And then we found out that this converter makes a little bit rough the surface So, we need to sand it again. After that we applied the zinc chromate, that’s a green one. And we did one layer, we sand it again, we did a second layer, and then, after that, we finally painted on this gray color that is
a synthetic “esmalt” for cars, with “catalyzer”. Well, finally a layer of paint with the compressor that I’m happy with. I mean, I think takes a while to learn
how to paint with this machine. But, I’m getting there. Now, the east side container is all done, to install the windows We just need to paint the west side tomorrow. See you guys tomorrow. For the second half of the container we change our minds and we wanted to go with the epoxy primer, that’s a lot a lot expensive, but it’s really really good. You can tell the difference just by painting. You can see the difference. So, this one was a lot easier. We just prepared the surface, we applied one coat of epoxy primer, there was one mistake. I took for granted the compressor and I thought was easy because with the other primer I just painted and was fine with the compressor. But, with the epoxy primer I didn’t do it right . I guess I had too much pressure on
the compressor. So, it leaked a lot. So, then, after I painted with the compressor the first layer I did a second coat using just a little roll. I don’t know how you called it, just a little brush. And I sanded it and I took all the bad
parts and I did just with the roll and what’s really good. And we just left like that for a while until we did some other stuff on the shipping container, And after that you just sanded it a little bit more. What are you doing? I’m just giving a little bit of sanding,
so we paint the final coat. Not the final, two coats of the final paint. Hopefully, because we’ve done that a few times and we always scratch the primer and need to do primer again. So now I’m doing really slow, just like a a little bit of sanding just so the ink, the paint gets well on the metal. Let’s see. And we apply the final coat of the gray color, the same as this one. The good thing is we thought as we did so many different, like… layers in every place, that would be like a different color. But in the end, it all looks the same. It seems like we did exactly the same thing. So, it’s really good. And I don’t know… we really liked the color. It’s pretty good. So, this is gonna be the color of the whole shipping container. Yeah. That’s gonna be the color of the whole shipping container, in the future. Because we’re not ready for that yet. There is too much rust for us to grind, and my hands are tired of grinding,. Lately, we’ve been having a lot of comments of things we’re doing wrong and for us that’s a good thing. We love to hear what you think and what we’re doing wrong. We are learning a lot. Because we are not trying to tell you that the way we are doing is the right way. Definitely that’s not the best way, definitely that’s not the only way you can do it anything we are doing. Everything we are filming and we are showing you guys on the videos is the way we found out how to do it, Is the way we could do it somehow. Because we don’t know what, we never done this before, and it’s just… I don’t know, it’s just what we can do with the experience we have. if you have anything to let us know that we are doing wrong, or any advice we would love to hear. Just leave a comment on the comment section below and we are glad to hear your comments and just try to get better, because we still have a lot of things to do by the end of the building. So, I mean, if you say… So, if you say what’s wrong we might get
better. And sorry if you we give… and I’m sorry if
we gave any bad advice. I mean, we are trying our best. So, if we say something wrong just correct us, please. So, finally, after two months of a lot of
work, we installed the windows on place and we have windows on our house now. All of them. Even the bigger one. And like always, we learned along the way, and the process changed every single, not every single window, but, you know every group of windows changed a little bit how we did it. And this one, that’s the kitchen window is the one that always suffers. Why? Because we always try first on this one everything that we do. Yeah. The thing is, it’s a small we know but it’s not that small, so is a good one to try for the first time what you need to do, I’m not gonna try something new or a huge window, so I just get, we just get… you know, the smaller one. So this one is the one that suffers. So, when we started installing the windows we found out that actually it’s pretty hard to have… a 100% percent squared corner on the steel frame. We needed to grind every single corner of the aluminum window. Otherwise when we try to put in place always scratch and it might take off the paint of the steel frame. It’s not good. Not good and too risky. Yeah. So, the other step is to put the spray foam. Yeah. We need somehow to hold the windows on place. One possibility would be to screw through the window and through the metal frame. But… We were worried about using different kinds of metals. Yeah, usually when you mix it up different kinds of metal it might change electrons, I guess, that’s why comes corrosion. And we don’t want anything to have corrosion. So, we decided to do without screws. Yeah. Right now, all the windows are just on place by… foam. Just expendable foam. The good
thing about using the foam is that … at first, when you apply the foam it’s really loose, and it’s pretty fast, pretty quick too for the foam to expand, But, while that happens we can still move the window around and find the exact position we wanted. So, how long did it take? Around 10 to 15 minutes. So, we hold the window on place, just trying to find the correct spot. And after that it’s not a hundred percent dry, but you can let it go and it’s gonna hold on place. Then, we waited around 24 hours, for
most of them. When it’s not raining, otherwise it’s more than 24 hours. But after 24 hours we were able to apply a polyurethane on the corners. Like, just to make sure it’s watertight. So, we decided to apply this polyurethane everything around every window and that’s where the mistake was made on the first window. Actually, the mistake started with the foam. Yeah, actually the foam. If there was one advice to give about working with polyurethane, expandable foam and a window, is use masking tape when… everywhere you don’t want the foam or the polyurethane to get, because once the foam touch any metal it’s gonna be like a mark. No, you cannot take off. Even if you’re take the whole thing off,
it’s gonna be yellow with with time with the sun, and with, you know… So, use as much masking tape as possible in every single spot you don’t want to get like a mark. And this was the problem on this one. We didn’t use enough masking tape, because we thought: no, the the foam won’t get there. But, you know, it always finds a little spot and it goes through and then is just a mess. So, we finished the windows. Actually,
not finished, because inside we didn’t do any finishing, we are waiting for the insulation to have it done. Yeah. The main thing is that… just a second. The main thing is that the windows are on place, and they are not moving, I mean, they are really tied on place. And now we are free to work inside when rains. And that’s really really a good thing. Because here rains a lot. The finishing of the inside, as you can tell
you can see the foam still, we’re going to cut the excess of form and we’re going to have our wooden finishing around the window. But, that’s something that we’re gonna do in the future. Not yet. There’s no need to do it right now. As you can tell we only show you guys windows and we didn’t show any door, any aluminum door. And we said last week that we’re going to have two aluminum doors. And the reason for that is because we didn’t finish on time, only the doors. Because we have a problem. You guys always think it’s just excuse and excuses and excuses. But, we are only two and we not always can do on time, when the weather doesn’t help. And this past week just rained and rained. So, we couldn’t finish on time. And actually the doors we need to find a solution, because it’s a different way to put it in a place. Yeah. These windows come with the window and the frame together already. The door is just the frame and then you put the you put the door on place. So, the frame is really light and bends really easy. So, if we just apply straight spray foam like we did it’s just gonna bend the whole thing, for sure. It’s not gonna work. So, we still need to cut some pieces of wood to lock the frame on place, and… it’s gonna be… take a little bit more work. We still don’t know what is gonna be, but… Yeah, I mean, this week we are gonna somehow finish that. Yeah. Is that good? Yeah. So, if you don’t know we have a new episode every Monday for you guys, around 9, 10 o’clock Brazilian time, in the morning. So, if you subscribe you don’t need to do the math. So, don’t forget to subscribe to our channel and to click on the little bell to be notified that we have a new episode. So, see you guys next week (Monday). As you can tell, the windows are a little bit thicker than the regular ones, because we decided to have mosquitoes net, mosquito nets, in every single one. Actually we live in Brazil and we have a lot of green around the house, so… here on the summer, the mosquito is just kill you. I mean, like, they can literally get you and take you somewhere else, because they’re too many. I’m joking.

⛵️From a Tiny Shipping Container House to an Abandoned sailboat!! #113

    January 3, 2020

Take 17. That’s true. We’ve been trying to shoot this
first sequence of today’s episode for so many times. This is the last episode of the year. We tried to write the perfect sentence to start the episode but we just can’t get it right. So, we’re gonna do a freestyle way, our way. So, what are we gonna do today? We are gonna shoot the last episode of the year and we are gonna do a rewind. Yeah, it’s actually the third Odd Life Crafting year rewind. But first we have one last thing we need to do before we get started. We need to introduce ourselves for the last time of the year. It might have someone new here, so they
have no idea who we are. So it’s time to let you know who we are. So, we’re gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the house. New episode every Monday! This was an amazing year. That’s just hard to put in words how excited we are about the year we had. We tried to sit down and write a script about the year and it’s just impossible. We sat down for 3 hours and we had like random words and ideas and it’s just like a mess of informations that we just gave up. Yeah, we decided to choose one word to describe the whole year. What’s your word? My word is changes. And my word is unexpected. So, pretty much… If you put all together I think the sentence of the year for us is… unexpected changes. If you asked us 365
days ago where we would be today we would definitely not say we would be
sitting on our own dream sailboat and that we would be refitting our dream
boat. It’s just something that we’ve been dreaming for so long that we actually planned that for next year, for 2020. And we are in 2019 and here we are. It’s just… yeah. But if we want to proper… properly tell this story we cannot start here because the year didn’t start here. We need to travel. 700 kilometres to tell this story. So, let’s go to our hometown. Florianópolis, 700
kilometres south. After so long, we are finally here. Hey, Magoo. Keys. Kiss. Let’s see how it’s inside. We received some mail. That’s Christmas,
Christmas coming earlier. What is this? Solar panels. What else? That’s the better part. You know… when you are a kid you have some wishes, you want that Noel… How is Papai Noel in English? Yeah, this guys. You want Santa Claus to bring you… You write Santa Claus a letter and then Santa Claus send you… Well, a few months ago we sent a letter to Santa Claus Xantrex. We told about… we talked about that before. The former owner of the boat
had a charger/inverter for the battery system, that he liked it a lot. And we we were hoping it was working and it wasn’t actually working. So, we wrote Santa Claus from Xantrex in Canada and told them about that, about the equipment that the former owner liked it a lot. He talked so well about their equipment and we got a really really cool gift. Check this out. I think we’re gonna open it… We have some other things to record, but we’re gonna open this first, right? Wow, it’s a lot of things. Freedom remote. That’s really good. That’s an extra panel for the… to control the system. So, basically this we can install on the panel, so we can control the battery system on here. That’s because the unit is gonna be
underneath the table, so it’s harder to reach. So, we have this also to help to control it.
That’s pretty good. The small one. Charging controller. That’s the charging controller for the solar panels, that are these ones. Solar panels we’re not gonna open because we need to drive 700 kilometers back to the boat. And it’s safer to store them this way, so we’re just gonna leave as it is. Another small one. So, this is just some extra
outlets. That’s good. So now we can have on the charting table, on the editing room. That’s the big thing. This is one unit that is the same time a charger for the batteries 80 Ampere charger. Plus a 2000 watts inverter. That’s the heart of the electricity of
the boat. But before install this we have another
thing to do. We cannot install the batteries back in place if we don’t finish the diesel tanks. We need to clean the rust and we need to paint the diesel tank in order to install the batteries back in place. And in order to
install this back in place. So that’s a good thing because now we have something to push us and make us work faster and harder because we already have what we
needed. By the way, Xantrex thanks so so much. This is gonna make a huge difference in our life, just in the way we’re gonna be what you go inside of the boat and turn on the lights, because now we have something to actually charge the batteries. Because if we have batteries but no way to charge… it doesn’t work. But today we need to do something else. We came here not for that actually, that was
just a surprise, that we we ship all the equipment’s to here instead of the boat. We came here actually to shoot a new year’s video, a rewind video, right? Yeah. So, let’s start where we were in the beginning of this year. Where were we in the beginning of this year? So, here is where we started the year. See? Building some furniture. Actually
the whole bedroom. This was the first piece of furniture we have ever built. So, for some people building yourself a bedroom like this… I don’t know if you can see it.But we can show you properly later. Or we can show you some images. But for some people building a furniture is just a way of saving money, right? You buy some materials and you build your own furniture. But for us it was a lot of
knowledge that we earned, gained. Not earned, gained. Basically for us this bedroom means a lot more than just
saving money. It actually means that we could do anything. This was a prove to
ourselves that we could learn anything we want to learn and if we want we can
achieve anything. If we could build this bedroom that means we could build the entire house, and that’s a huge huge transition point, like a turning point. Because once you believe in yourself you actually can do anything. And that that was a really really important moment. And actually it turned out
better than we thought. What do you think? Do you like it? It’s a lot better than we thought. Check this out. Isn’t this cool? Let me show them. Look at this. Automatic. With brakes and everything. And it’s a lot of storage space. And we like the design, the colors. A lot of storage underneath. Now that we are talking about sailboats, this is just like a sailboat, you can take all the lids off the top you can store things
underneath the entire bed. That’s really cool. And we also have some storage this way. This was like a first introduction carpentry. Or maybe cabinet… Woodworking. Like cabinet making. But it was a huge project because took us a long time to put all these parts together and to design it and… I think we spent 2 months building the entire bedroom. Yeah, it was like 2 months building the entire bedroom. We still didn’t finish the electrical part, we need to turn on this small lights there. You see… there is 2 small lights. We have the same problem here and on the boat, we don’t have lights. We also don’t
have the outlets on the inside yet. So the outlet is there, ready to be
installed but we didn’t run all the cables and didn’t finish it yet. But, check it out. This is automatic brake. Oh, babe. See? Slow brake. And we love the design of the opening here, that we can open like this way. Still, we have some way to go but that was a really really good project. We’re actually excited to be here in the house. It’s better than I remembered actually. Actually, it’s funny to stay away
for a while. It seems like… we’ve been away for 6
months and in 6 months we came here it only 2 times. And seems like we’ve been
away for like 5 years. Because we’ve been doing so much things on the boat lately that it seems like the house was a long long long time ago. I think it’s the nautical time. Yeah, nautical time, that’s true. But after the bedroom what did we do? We discovered the boat actually. Yeah. And that’s when we
start having a double life. That’s what some people never understood, because we
never properly explained that. We actually bought the boat I think like almost 2 months before we told you guys that we bought the boat. We told the
patrons a month earlier probably. Because they knew the transition a little bit
before because we have… Yeah, it’s just a closer contact with them, because we do
some extra videos for Patreons. But it was hard, it was tough to keep 2 lives
separated and not telling everyone about our dream boat that we’ve just purchased. But yeah… it’s just hard because your attention is half here half there. And at the same time you cannot have half attention on building something because otherwise just won’t look good. So we had bought the boat but we needed to finish some projects on the house to keep all organized to came back months later. To be 100% honest the original plan for the boat was to
buy the boat, actually we bought the boat, and the plan was: now we’re gonna bring the boat by land then we’re gonna eave the boat sitting on a piece of land here where we live and we’re gonna finish the house and then we’re gonna
start working on the boat. That was the original plan since we bought the boat. But we researched about the price of doing this and the price was the same price as doing a lot of things on the boat. That was like 5 thousand dollars, US dollars. 20 thousand Reais, 20 thousand of our money. So, we changed plans again. In life sometimes you need to take the chance, you need to risk a little bit in order
to gain something, I believe in that, that’s my way of thinking. Some people don’t agree, it’s fine. Each one think their own way. And this was like a transition point of the
year, that’s why I think the year was represented by transition, by risk,
by chance. It’s because we had something good going. We were building our own tiny
shipping container house. We had a good following, people were watching the videos, we were making a little bit of money, it was enough to pay for the building
of the house… We were stable, let’s put this way, right? It was fine it was a stable. But then the dream came back. And we had a opportunity and we were like: so what about if we closed the house for a few months and then we finished the boat and
then we come back to the house? And the truth is… if you do something from
the heart, if you do something real, if you really really do what you believe,
the chance of working out is much higher, I believe. And we decide to take the chance and we close the door and we had one month, that was… remember? We had we
had one month to get things packed here, to get things out of the way, so we could
drive to Sao Paulo, 700 kilometres away and from there we would just come back
when you finish the boat. So, before we went to the boat the idea was to get as close as possible to finish a bathroom. Yeah, this is a tricky project. Check this out. Of course we are not 100% done yet. That’s the wall of the bathroom, the future door. And then this is the coolest part, the
shower cabin. This was a tough decision because usually people would just go to the store and buy a bathtub, right? That’s just the way it goes. But we wanna try to build one by ourselves with scrap pieces of the rest of the building. And we want to get to know if we could build the way we wanted. We wanted to build our own way, our own color, our own shape. It’s like square, it’s not round. You never find a square bathtub, it’s just… and on the right dimensions. Because the shipping container has the right dimensions to get the right size of the bathroom. We did our way. And we’re actually really really happy with the result. Check this out. We only need to install a glass wall here, the shower there of course, the fittings of the shower, a glass wall here, a glass door
here. But even though it seems simple took us a long time to finish that. Our goal was to get walls and shower cabin done and pipes inside , because there is pipes inside already of the walls, before we could move to São Paulo. So, we left the house in a way that is not… structural-wise it’s pretty much done. We just need to build furniture and electrical and that’s it, right? And here we are. Refitting our dream sailboat for the past 6 months. We have friends already even. Check it out. Titela. In 6 months I learned how to
communicate with Titela. You just cry like she cries and then she cries back. We learned to communicate with dogs in 6
months. So we’re not that late. Pretty much we were supposed to stay
here for 3 months. But there is a nautical time. Nautical time is… when we arrived in the boat yard someone told us about that, that’s basically one point…
around 1.85 times times time. At first we thought is was a joke, we didn’t believe in that, we were like: no no three months is enough. And now we see that’s the reality. Actually our nautical time is more likely almost 3 times time. We’re like looking forward for like 8 months on the boat yard. Yeah, but we never know actually. Is this a bad thing? No, actually we have
been learning a lot. It’s a good thing. Yeah, we take this as an opportunity to learn more things and an opportunity to get to know our boat even better. Because you never know in the future of course even though we are fixing everything the boats is gonna break. We will need to fix the boat, right? Yeah, and we never know where we are gonna be. So pretty much we are learning a lot about the boat and we are taking day by day. We’re just enjoying the journey.
And when we say that sounds fake, but it’s not. Truly, we get like so excited
with small steps. Like… we are looking forward now to install the hatches all in place and that’s a huge accomplishment for us. We are not even thinking about going to the water because otherwise we will just get too anxious and we won’t finish the boat. So, we are learning with our… I don’t know. I can’t think anymore. It’s hard to think with someone like just asking for some love. So, pretty much we’re gonna show you the best moments of the past 6 months. We’re gonna show you how the boat was when we arrived here and how the boat is right now. So, let’s start with how the boat was when we arrived here. It was like seriously abandoned. Outside it was like neglected. Some people don’t like when we say abandoned but it was abandoned. They didn’t wash the boat
for 22 years, that’s abandoned for me. But some people say it’s neglected, so the
boat was really really neglected like this. May/2019 Dec/2019 And here we are now. Excited. It was a long year, but an
exciting one. We are really really proud of what we have achieved this year. Even though we’re late we did a lot. The boat looks so different and, I don’t know… We can’t wait for 2020 to see what New Year brings to us. We have no idea. It’s crazy. We gave up on
trying to imagine the next year because it’s just too hard to get it right. Because things change all the time. So let’s talk about the New Year’s resolution. It’s hard to finish the video without
New Year’s resolution. But first let’s talk about last Year’s New Year’s resolution. This year we had 3 goals. The first goal was to shoot and post one episode
every single week, that means 52 episodes. So, this one: checked. Our second goal was to get really close
to finish the house so we could start the sailboat project in 2020. As you can tell by now these we cannot check because we didn’t get any closer to finish the house from… I don’t know… June and on. But at the same time we got much closer to finish the sailboat that we were supposed to start only in 2020. Yeah, plans change. So, that’s it’s not a checked but it’s a really good not checker I guess. So, the third and last go for 2019 was something that we thought we would never reach. But it was a dream. We just want something to push us forward, so we dreamed with reaching 100,000 subscribers. In beginning of the year we had 32,000
subscribers. That means we needed an extra 68 thousand subscribers in one year and there was something really really
far away for us. But for our surprise we actually reached 150 thousand subscribers, that means 50% more. As soon as we turned from the house to the boat the channel started growing a lot. Yeah, that’s something amazing. We want to thank you, guys. All of this, all we are doing, the whole refitting project was something that was a dream. That we kind of had the money to do it but not in the way we wish we could. But with the channel growing that means that we are able to do everything we want. Everything we want to change we are changing everything we want to fix
your fixing… And that’s only thanks to you, guys. Thanks to everyone that watched our videos, that share our videos, that likes our videos, that send us comments on the comment session giving us tips on how to do this, on how to do that; people that donate through PayPal; that buy t-shirts and mugs. That’s something that we thought we would never do: sell t-shirts and mugs. And these past months we actually sold a lot of t-shirts and mugs. That’s amazing. It’s really cool to think that someone in a completely different country has our t-shirt that actually I drew this back
in Indonesia 3 years ago. That was hand draw. The beginning of the project. That was the beginning of everything. The beginning of the huge change and people now have t-shirts with our… It’s just… it still amazes us how many good people and how many… how do I… the word is… There is one word that describes that… generous. How many generous people have around that are willing to give some to help others to achieve their dream. And that’s what you guys are doing. Thanks to all our Patreons, you guys are just special. It’s just really cool to be able to create this small community
around something that we love and finding other people that also love what we love. It’s just… if you let me I will keep just
talking for maybe an hour because it’s just hard to express how thankful we are. Let’s talk about next year’s resolution though. Yeah, because there is always a next year resolution. But we gave up on that. I think it’s just too hard to predict what’s gonna happen next year. So, instead we can… We have something that we really know that is gonna happen. We know for sure. The boat is gonna go to the water. That’s… let’s put one
resolution then: just go to the water. That’s a really really good achievement if we put the boat back on water after 22 years on the dry. That is I think the best New Years resolution. After this we are planning on start calling some Patreons to be on board with us. She’s good at goals, see? I set the goals last year and I din’t get any thing right. So, she’s gonna get it right this year. So, goal number one: we want to get the boat back in water. Goal number 2: we want to have at least one Patreon on board for week with us, when the boat is in
the water. We can not guarantee it’s gonna be in 2 months from now, it might be 6 months from now, when we are able already to receive a guest on the boat. And we actually don’t know where we are gonna be. So, we need to plan it. Hopefully, by the end of 2020 we are gonna have at least one Patreon and one extra guest extra guest that the Patreon is gonna
bring with to the boat to spend and to share moments with us. That’s a good,
yeah… Other than that we are not expecting any amount of subscribers, we are really excited how we are. But of course you can still share our videos and you can still tell anyone that you think would love to see our content. And give us tips, always welcome. I mean like… some tips sometimes it’s
not realistic for us. Yeah, we are in Brazil and we don’t have the products people have in other places. And the tax here… You can send tips that doesn’t mean
that we are gonna be able to use every single tip. It’s hard to follow them. Other than that, any…? We talked about Patreons I think it’s about time to welcome our new Patreons. For the last time this year we’re gonna welcome aboard some new Patreons. So welcome on board Louise, Andreas, Terry, Submerge, Sergio. And we also want to thank the donations to our PayPal. Thanks a lot Richard, Carlos Alberto and Edwin. Thanks a lot, guys. We really really really appreciate your support. And I guess that’s it for 2019. It’s amazing how quick the year went by and we want to wish you a great 2020. So, have a great New Year’s and we see you guys next Monday. See you. Join the crew

⛵️We FINALLY painted our abandoned sailboat 🤩(after 22 years on the hard)!! #100 (painting part 2)

    January 2, 2020

Are you guys ready to see the biggest
transformation so far on this channel? Yeah, today we’re gonna transform
this boat into a fresh brand new colorful boat. This is gonna be weird. We’ve been waiting for this moment for a long long time. By the way… if you’ve just arrived here, this is part 2 of this episode. So you can pause this video and go to part 1 and then you come back. On part 1 we paint the boat from how it was, abandoned like this, and now it looks like this. And really soon it’s gonna look like… it’s a surprise. So, let’s I started. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patrons (Thank you!!) So, we can travel around knowing that we will always have this little place that we can call home. But guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So we are gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the house. New episode every Monday!! Exciting day today! What we’re gonna do today? Moving day. Basically we are waiting for them to put
this boat down on the ground, so then… they can take our boat and
take all the way back there, right there. Yeah, what’s there? Painting cabin. Yeah, we’re gonna take the boat to the painting cabin because here is too dusty to paint the final
color of the boat. We still need to give another coat of primer, not… Like 3 coats of primer and then we can paint it with the final color. But we’re gonna do all that inside of the painting cabin. And that means that once we go in the
only way out is gonna be with a brand new painted boat. That’s exciting. It’s scary, but we can’t wait to see the boat on the actual final color. So, today is THE day. What is the color? No… You’re gonna see it after we open up the curtains of the painting cabin. So, let’s get started. But first let’s lift the Centerboard To lift the centerboard we use the mast. But as we don’t have the mast we need to use the jack to do the final… lift. Now we can move the boat. So, this is our new location. Old spot Time to go to the new place now. I’m tired. It seems like a quick thing to move the boat around but actually it takes some time. And we have a lot of belonging. Yeah, after a while in the same place we start accumulating things underneath the boat. So, we need to put everything together, now move there and then next week we move to another spot. Actually, that’s gonna be our spot. Do you see the first gray boat? After there that’s where we’re gonna go. But it’s gonna take like a week. (probably more) And then we need to install the hatches and we have a lot to do. A lot to do, yeah. And from there we come back to the first spot we were ever. I’m anxious to go back to the first one, that was the best place. Next to the coffee shop, you know… It’s much better. Less noise… a lot less noise. Less dust. Less dust, a lot less dust. 2 parts of Epoxy Primer We think the old water line is a little
bit lower than we need. So we are putting it a little bit up… like 8 centimeters. There is no way back now. Ready? There is a big hole here. I’m just gonna be like with a small spot of orange. Ginger. First coat Second coat Third coat Fourth coat Almost there. Not really. Actually we’re gonna stop after this coat. Because the weather is gonna change, so we knew that we need to stop at 1:30. And then we’re gonna wait
for this weather to get better, like a week. And after a week we’re gonna sand this, fix a few spots and then we give another 3 or 4 coats of polyurethane. And then the varnishing and then we’re gonna be done. It takes a while. And then the deck. And then we need to paint the deck. That’s another, yeah… Just wait. Be patient, we’ll get there one day. Eventually. Fifth coat Yeah, that’s it. Yeah, that’s it, the rain came back. As usual it’s already raining a lot I don’t know if you can tell, but it’s raining. But at least this time we got to paint the boat before the rain, and we had like two good days to dry the boat. And the boat is already on the final color.
I mean… we still didn’t 100% finish it, but you can tell how the boat is gonna look. Let’s check it out. What do you guys think? Isn’t that pretty? We have like 20 batteries to keep the color like that. Yeah, it’s like an LED color, right? No, not really. So, basically this have already 5 coats
of PU, polyurethane. But on the bottom of that we have 2 coats of primer, epoxy primer then we have fairing compound and then another 3 coats of primer and then a little bit more fairing compound to fix some mistakes. And then 5 coats of polyurethane and then… Come on. Confusing. They are already sanding the boat. Again. The reason for that is something that we
didn’t decide yet. The boat looks really good, you can see it here. But still there are a few small imperfections that maybe if we sand again and paint it again it’s gonna be better. Because this is 5 coats. We still have paint left so we are gonna give at least another 5 coats. But now we have one question that we cannot answer. We didn’t decide yet if in between these 5 coats and the next 5 coats if we are gonna apply an
extra small amount a really thin faring compound, just to make sure it’s really
really smooth. Or if we’re gonna just leave it like this and just spend another 5 coats of polyurethane, and then 5 coats of varnishing. Because once the boat is inside the water the water will reflects the waves and we cannot see the… We don’t know if it’s just something that we want to be too perfect or if it’s something that someone’s gonna see in the future. Maybe it’s like small defects that no one’s gonna actually see it. So I don’t… We don’t really know if it’s worth to apply another fairing compound layer and… We have until tomorrow to decide that. So, we’re gonna let you know. Yeah, by tomorrow we’re gonna decide it. And then if we decide not to use another layer of fairing compound we’re just gonna apply another 5 coats of polyurethane and then 5 coats of varnish. And the side of the boat is ready. I don’t know if you understood… let’s show how the… So, here is the toe rail and the tow rail is
gonna be white and an extra 3 fingers, around… Like 4 centimeters it’s gonna
be white. So that means that here is gonna be a white stripe. The same color as the deck. It’s not really really white, it’s more like a ice color. Just because this is a part of the boat that is easy to scratch, so if it’s white it’s easier for us to fix. Yeah, to repair. Because you can get a brush and fix. The orange with varnishing is not as easy to fix. The deck we didn’t paint with polyurethane yet. But, the good news is that we found the awl grip. That’s good. We have all the awl grip necessary now and that’s pretty good. That’s good news. Yeah, but I guess for this week its done, right? Because it’s raining and it’s gonna be raining for the entire week. So, we’ll need to wait for one week until
we can go back to the painting job. Just… let’s welcome our new Patreons. That’s good, yeah. Welcome on board, Michael, Dimitri, Jacqueline, Michael, Carlo, Mike, Mark, Joe, George, Michael. And we also want to thank the donations through our PayPal. Thanks so much, Clive and Jonas. Guys, thanks so much we really really really appreciate the support. And for those of you who don’t know… this is a weekly series. We are refitting this boat that was staying on the hard for 22 years and we produce one episode every Monday. 10 o’clock in the morning, Brazilian
time, every single week. But if you don’t want to do the math and check the time you can just subscribe and click on the little bell. So you’re gonna receive an email every
time we post a new video. She’s smart, see? I’m not that smart. Yeah, but basically we are just on the mission to put her back on the water and that’s… We thought it would take 3 months it’s more likely 5 months. But, still… We’re, you know… enjoying every single week. That’s… We’re having a good progress. It’s hard but it’s fun and it’s gonna be amazing when we see her in the water. Because she’s been sitting here for way too long. She deserves to go back to the water. Yeah. But I guess we’re talking too much, as usual. I mean, I’m talking too much. So, we see you guys next Monday. Beautician time. Beautician. That’s it, it’s good. Can I? Yeah. Join the crew

⛵️Is it time to go to the water? ??‍♀️??‍♂️#112

    December 25, 2019

It’s finally time for some unwrapping. Yeah, we’ve been waiting for a long time to unwrap all the rails and everything. Because we want to see how the deck looks as done, as new. We don’t remember
the deck without the yellow and black… It’s been a long time. So, we’re gonna do a time-lapse and then we show… we’re gonna show you the result, right? Yeah. Let’s get it. I’m Roberta. And I’m Duca. And for the past year we have been building our own tiny shipping container house. Made possible by our Patrons (thank you!!) So, we can travel around knowing that we will always have this little place that we can call home. But, guess what? We’ve just found our dream project before we expected: this abandoned sailboat. So, we’re gonna stop building the house for a couple months to bring our boat back to life, and then we’re gonna go back and finish the house. New episode every Monday!! Proud of yourself? Look at the sound. I mean, listen to the sound. But, we still need to put this. Do you know how to do this with blind
eyes? We have done it so many times now. Wow. I think it’s good. So, tomorrow we are gonna finish taking
the tapes out of the deck. Because the generator is loud today. Yeah. This noise is because… 5 or 6? 5 and half. I think 5 or 6 o’clock the marina stops using the energy from the city and starts the energy from the diesel
generator. Because the energy is really expensive for like half an hour or one hour. So, it’s always really loud here. So, it’s hard to shoot. So, we see you guys tomorrow. See you tomorrow. It’s about time to close the ceiling and for this we need to… Hello. … assemble this winch. Back in place. Because the screws of it are here. So, we need to close this now. Let’s do it. Now it’s time to close the ceiling! First let’s put the last one. Okay, okay. I’m anxious to have the ceiling all closed. It’s time to install this one that’s in our cabin. We already did that one. And now the
mess is gonna be here. Are you ready for the mess? The holes on the winch are like this, this and this. And I think these ones were made for other kind of winch. Yeah, I don’t know that was just a
mistake. They don’t… We don’t need this hole. Do you wanna put the second? The third one? Number 3? You need to put it in place and I’ll go down . Just hold it with both fingers. It’s tough because she need to be inside and we need to communicate through the hatch. And we gave numbers to it screws to make sure we know what we are talking about the same thing. I guess it’s a smart idea. Yeah, there is one screw that’s a tricky
spot, really tight spot that she’s trying to screw down. Let’s check inside. Come with me. Number 1. Wait. Go. Good. I think it’s good. Yey. We managed to do this. So, it’s really hard to take this off because some screws are impossible to take off. There is no head here. And we would need to take all these and there is… there are 2 screws here that there is no head. They don’t have any head anymore. So, I’m trying to do this and… I’m not trying, we managed to do this. It’s really cool. Now we can close the ceiling of the cabin. We’re already doing this, we are putting
these little things here to do the acrylic and to install the hatches. I can’t wait to see the hatches in place. Now it’s time for the finishings. You are managing to do this? I think you are getting better than me at this task. That’s how Duca “smiles” when he is concentrated. That’s it. Now all we need to do is to cover the roof, the ceiling. Ceiling panel it is. It’s so cool how this slowly is
getting in shape and looking like an actual sailboat back. Isn’t it? I mean… We don’t have the hatches yet. We have portlights though. Check them out. We are getting closer to finishing the deck. And we have all 4 winches in place. Anything you wanna share about this
winch? We have news about this one. Remember that when we assemble this one we broke, we… Me broke the spacer? So, the first time we installed this in place the spacer, the plastic spacer was broken and we said that we would fix that. So, we disassemble this, we clean all the exceeded grease. The grease that was in excess. And we built some new spacers with Teflon. But this time it’s a much stronger one. Brand new. Teflon, better. Expensive, but really
good. Teflon is so expensive, we had no idea. Teflon cost like $50.00 for a 30 centimeters by 30 centimeters plate by 4 millimeters thick. But, this spacer is gonna last longer than us now. Yeah, I hope it last forever. But I think that’s it for this week, right? No, we have other news. Which news? So, let’s go to another place. Can you see any difference? Check this out. I don’t know if you noticed, but we have a fresh bottom now. Isn’t that good? This didn’t look always like that, it was a lot of work. So, we’re gonna show you how
we got to this point. Check it out. 5 months ago. Paint stripper Intershield 300 + Epoxy Primer Wet sanding Intertuf Vinyl – primer/sealant So, is this the final paint of the bottom? No, not yet. This is not the antifouling paint, this is just the primer to hold the antifouling paint. So, are we gonna paint now the antifouling? Are we gonna go to the water now? Not now, in the future. I think it’s next year. It’s like next month, we’re in December already. The reason why we painted the already is because as we did like a huge pack with the company that painted our boat we wanted to get things
out of the way. So, as it is right now they just need to give a light sand and apply the antifouling and it can go to the water. But you can only do that right
before you go to the water. And as we have still a lot of things to solve on the boat before we go to the water… We are not gonna paint it yet. So, what is the problem of painting it before we go to the water? What is the problem of being outside? Because the paint lose its effect, it
won’t work anymore if it stays out of the water. So what do we have to do still
before we go to the water? We still need to… we still have a lot to do. We still need to clean the drains. They are starting this job but we bought a paint that is really hard. It’s another history, we can tell you in the future. But basically right now we don’t have any of the valves installed. We took off a hundred percent of the valves of the boat, that means that if we go to the water today we sink the boat. Not sink because the valves are really high. But still… we can’t go to the water right now. We bought already the new valves but they are producing them. The… It’s complicated. Another history. So, we need to paint the drains,
we need to paint the diesel tank… Still we didn’t paint it yet. Good news on this part. We have… really soon we’re gonna have good news on
this part. And we need to install the hatch…. Some other stuff. But for now at least the boat so pretty. It seems like we are ready to go to the water. This gives us energy to keep going because it just… It feels like we’re ready and
that’s good already. So, enough for this week. Let’s welcome on board our new Patreons. So, welcome on board Kevin, Richard, Blake, James, Xavier. And we also wants to thank the donation through our PayPal. Thanks so much Mark and Olivia. Thanks so
much, guys. We really really really appreciate the support. And we see you guys next week. We see you guys next Monday. Join the crew
