Land More Fish With X-Rap® Haku | Rapala®

    January 28, 2020

Here it is: X-Rap Haku, Rapala’s new jerkbait! There’s plenty of jerkbaits on the market and we’ve been using them for pike fishing forever. The Haku brings us something completely new It has a quick-release system which means when the pike strikes the lure, the hooks come right off the body and this will actually help us land more fish. So I just caught a fish on the X-Rap Haku and the release system is working wonders The pike is not going anywhere It’s super easy, to just snap it back on.. So how do I fish the Haku? Mainly in three different ways: the first one is super easy Make a long cast and a steady retrieve, making it swim all the way back to the boat. Second one: work it with your rod, give some slack in between all the twitches making the lure jump from side to side. The third one is: Use the stop-and-go technique by cranking, stopping, cranking, stopping and you will get that side-to-side jerking action. Now.. Perch eats perch – got a beautiful… bonus fish on the X-Rap Haku.. while fishing for pike. Look at these red fins, it means they eat a lot of crayfish in this lake. Super beautiful specimen! If you’re looking for a super easy-to-fish jerkbait, in lifelike colors and with a quick-release system, increasing your hook-up percentage. X-Rap Haku – check it out!

Finding the sweet spot and catching lots of Pike – Ice fishing near Kingston

    January 23, 2020

There we go, he took it. He took it. Feels like it might be a good fish. Hello and welcome back to Conjuring Rock,
where we enjoy all season camping and fishing. Today I’m out at beautiful Collins Lake, I’m
going solo, and I’m going to hit the ice and target some pike. So, as you can see, I’m out at the spot here. I found a pretty wicked drop off. Actually, my tip-up’s set around 12 feet,
and there’s a nice quick slope here, and uh, actually, this hole right here, which is not
even, you know, like 6 – 7 feet away is over 20 feet, so that’s kinda what I was looking
for. I was looking for a steep drop off. I got my tip-up st a little bit shallow, with
a jumbo minnow on. I’ve got m hole set to jig so – I’ve got my
tent set up, I’m just getting settled here, then we’ll get in and start fishing. Time to get fishing. So, we’re just fishing a green bucktail (buckshot)
with a minnow head. This is known to be a pike area. And we are fishing. Beautiful day out today. I’m the only one on the lake so, I’m pretty
happy about that. Very safe ice 4-5 inches so. I’m surprised there isn’t people out here
especially it being a weekend. *Drag ripping*
There we go. There we go. And we’re on ladies and gentlemen. It feels like it might be a good fish. Oh he’s running good. He’s running good. Oh, big ole pike. Big ole pike! Wooo! Here’s a nice pike guys. It’s what we came after, so I’m quite happy
about that. There’s some weird mark on him. Pretty cool. Beautiful specimen. I figured this would be a good spot, so, that’s
awesome. We’re onto some fish, hahaha. It’s good to get one on the board. it’s good to know there’s big pike around,
I’m hoping that uh – sends off that tip-up momentarily. Oh, got a big mark here. There we go. There we go. That was cool. Very cool. There we go guys. Let go of the pliers. He did not want to let that go. Nice. Oh, tip-up! Tip-up. There we go. Ahh, another decent pike. Let’s get him back in the hole. Get this tip-up set, the pike are biting,
wow! Oh, tip-up! Oh, no no it snapped! It’s back again. Oh he’s trying to bite it. Hope you guys can see this, but, that dark
red mark on my screen is – there we go. He took it, he took it. He’s coming towards me, Yeah another pike. Came up quick so he’s got a lot of fight in
him. There’s another decent pike. They seem to be interested in this buckshot
today. Here you go bud. Very cool. Oh, we’re on again boys and girls. I don’t think this is as big or maybe, I’m
not sure. Feels decent. Ah, it’s another little guy. But man, these pike are biting today! It’s another little snot rocket, just a small
guy but, never the less its a pike day. They’re going after it today. Something keeps taking my bait. Took my whole bait. So guys, I was just gone for a walk, and we’ve
got another fish on. Oh! Look at this thing, look at how thin it is. Obviously malnourished. Super, super thin, so, let’s get him back
in the water if he’s okay. He can find something to eat. So it’s getting pretty dark and cold, I’m
going to pack it in, and thanks for watching guys, and as always, don’t forget to like,
comment, subscribe because we’re gonna have a lot more ice fishing videos coming down
    the tube. Cheers guys.

Pourquoi je pêche / Why i am fishing

To fish is a way, not a purpose. A way to awaken our senses to what surrounds us, to travel. It’s a vehicle of delights, discoveries and sharings. It’s also a way to meet, to learn and to dare. A time to escape, to step back and to feel free to dream. You have to be patient, to have stamina and to commit. This passion is a treasure, a school of life and a source of adrenalin. It gaves us joy, sorrows, doubts. In an environment sometimes harsh, sometimes soothing, often uplifting. Whether you are on the sea or on fresh water, pursuing carp or pike, black-bass or trout… Never mind the fish, the season or the region. Knowing what makes you a passionate is the only thing relevant.

PIKE FISHING: Motoroil vs Bright Colors CHALLENGE (Archipelago) | Team Galant

    January 18, 2020

Today we’ll find out whether bright or motoroil colors works best in the southern part of Sweden. Let’s prove for Pontus that motoroil is the best color. I’m just waiting until I can equip a motoroil colored bait. To be honest, I did not quite expect the outcome. Hello fishermen! Today me and
Philip will be doing a challenge … where we’ll see what works out the best in the southern part of Sweden. Motoroil tends to be the best, but after a dialog with Pontus, he claimed that bright colors are if not better. Today we’ll test his claim. One will be using bright colors and the other will be using motoroil. We’ll swap colors after an hour, in order to eliminate the fishermen bias. Who’ll start out using motoroil? I want to start out.
    – Me as well. Before we begin, leave a comment stating which color you believe will take home the trophy … also smash the like button. Let’s do rock paper scissors? The winner will be starting out with motoroil. Rock paper scissors. Yes! I’ll start out.
    – Damn it! One is supposed to use bright colors, but not just like yellow colors. These blue colors are acceptable as well. This one is rather dark and dull, so this is forbidden to use. These are the rules. One hour before we swap colors. Not a competition between you and me.
    – It feels like it. It’s in the middle of the winter season, 3.2 degrees of celsius in the water … and the pike has entered more shallow water, so that’s what we’ll keep in mind when fishing. I’m using a single treble hook in order to fish rather shallow and slowly. Let’s start out Philip?
    – Let’s do it. Let’s prove Pontus wrong! First cast – gotta make sure my brake is set hard since I’ll be catching a pig. Fishing along the reed line. Follower! Of course the motoroil Flatnose delivered. Who could’ve guessed it? Not Pontus. Pike! Decent one. Second follower. They’re just following today. Fish on! Motoroil delivers! 1-0 to motoroil. We’ve been fishing for half an hour, two followers as well. I swapped from Flatnose to Flatnose Dragon. During colder periods tailbaits can be great. Not the biggest one. Half an hour left of me fishing with motoroiled colored lures. Let’s catch the big ones. When it’s so cold, the mornings are quite slow. It’ll be a sunny day and hopefully they’ll get more active. Does not feel hot. These colors don’t feel good. Something you’d like to tell Pontus?
    – He should try out the bright colors here himself. Not as expected. Follower! Had a follower on the non-hot color. There’s a possibility that I can manage to catch one. We have 10 minutes left of fishing until we’ll swap colors. I’ve had two followers and one bite. Philip has had one follower and a bite. I’ll keep on fishing. The first hour has passed. You
had a bite in the final cast.
    – Exactly. That’s rather promising since I’ll be using that color now. Motoroil 1-0 though. Similar score when it comes to the amount of bites though. Both had 2 bites.
    – Let’s swap. I’ll be using Flatnose in a special motoroil color. I’ll be using a very bright color – Soumi Slayer. Philip had some activity on the Flatnose while I had on the Flatnose Dragon – so the bait does not seem to matter. Check out how shallow! 0.5-1 meter. Super clear water. Check out the movement of the lure as well. I don’t know about this one. It will not be unnoticed though. A bit too colorful for my taste. Here’s the bait Philip managed to get a bite on. If you have broken lures and will be heading for the sportfishing fair … make sure to bring them with you, because during 20-22th of March … the Kanalgratis crew will be recycling these baits and pay you for them. First cast with this ugly lure. Hopefully colors does not matter and Philip is just catching pike after pike. There! No! Had a strike on the ugly one. Time’s up! Finally my first bite on the bright one, just had like three followers before. Of course I missed it. Philip has missed out on a few as well.
    – Three or four bites. We did not manage to set the hooks though. We’ve finally managed to find them
    – Really inactive, just biting the paddle. I’ll use this trout-color. There are sea trouts here so hopefully they’re used to yellow colored sea trouts. Bad day. We discussed the day. Suddenly I caught this fat 3 kg pike. Nice one.
    – Wide back. 1-1. Let’s keep going. Time to release him. Bye bye! The trout color seems to work. There! No! They are just biting the paddle. Three strikes. I will bring this lure to the sportfishing fair. How slow! Swapping time once again. During this hour the bright color only managed to deliver one fish, so the score is 1-1. We’ve had plenty of strikes. We have had like 6-7 bites. If we managed to catch all of them we would’ve had like 10-15 pike. Only due to the inactivity of the pike we’ve managed to catch two! Time is flying away due to the short days. Let’s keep going. Finally hooked up. My soul is getting warm. 2-1 to motoroil. There we go. Holy! There! 2-2! Philip missed the one I caught. He used motoroil. Fat little fellow. Equal score. Perhaps Pontus is right, colors do not matter. Too small sample size to draw a conclusion. Some active fish and finally a pike that hooks itself. Bye! The trout color is good. A freaky sea trout. Our theory was that motoroil would deliver more fish.
Why do we suspect motoroil to work so good here? Since they are eating a lot of
eelpout, this color works good. The score is 2-2. I don’t know what to say. If your fishing shop would like to purchase any of these lures, make sure to contact [email protected] Let’s head for the next spot. Let’s see whether this spot works better than the last time we tried it. Let’s start casting. First cast of the day. Or not.
    – You’re right. There! No! They are just nibbling! There! Big one! Nice one! I was like “Why do the pike just nibble” and from nowhere I caught this big one. The fun fact is that it took on the bright colored lure. It’s crazy. Not that long.
    – Dense fellow. It’s heavy.
    – Like 5.5 kg. Time to release this one. Did not expect the biggest pike to bite on this lure. Time to release it. Lure-swapping time!
    – I’ll catch a big one. My turn to use a bright color. I’ll use this trout. Let’s see if I can catch a big one. Good start! Let’s head home Tobbe. We’ve caught the most fish on the Baby Smolt. But I still root for the motoroil. It feels hot, let’s keep going. There! Holy!
    – You missed it? What a strike.
    – On the Baby Smolt. Anchor up. It’s hot right now.
    – More than before. I’ll catch it. Motoroil do your job. Seems to be some pike here in this shallow water. No wind and we’re not fishing that slow since it’s so shallow. Follower!
    – I can see it as well. Come on, strike! No, it vanished. There! Motoroil 3-3. Fat. Took on the Flatnose. Perhaps the final pike for today.
    – Probably is. Let’s release it. Bye. 3-3! Exciting. We’ll continue because I want motoroil to win this competition. Done for today. Let’s see the result. I did not expect this outcome. The score is equal, 3-3. The biggest one caught on the bright lure. We’ve had 20-25 bites.
    – A lot. Just 6 fish up. If you want to see something similar to this, make sure to smash the like button … also leave a comment suggestion for an upcoming challenge. Select two colors you want to see compete against each other. The one with the most likes will get picked.
    – Yes. Take care, follow us at Instagram and subscribe for more videos. Bye!

Tip Ups and Big PIKE (Ice Fishing Devils Lake, North Dakota) #bigpike #tipuppike

    January 17, 2020

(INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT HER! WHOA! THIS IS A BIG GIRL HERE. LOOK AT THIS! HO HO! LOOK AT THAT! THAT IS A PIKE! THAT IS WHY WE’RE HERE RIGHT THERE. THIS IS WHY I LOVE DOING THIS. EVERY TIME A FLAG POPS THIS COULD BE ON THE OTHER END. UNBELIEVABLE. WHEW! (ICE AUGER RUNNING)>>OKAY, THIRTEEN FEET HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WE’RE FISHING FOR BIG TOOTHY CRITTERS HERE TODAY ON DEVILS LAKE. AND THERE’S SOME SURPRISINGLY NICE PIKE IN DEVILS LAKE. WHAT DO TO THIS IS I’M GOING TO TAKE A PIECE OF RUBBER BAND AND MARK MY DEPTH. JUST A CHEAP EASY WAY TO DO IT. NOW, IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN USE A LEAD DEPTH FINDER WEIGHT TO SET YOUR DEPTHS. I LIKE TO USE A VEXILAR JUST TO SEE IF THERE’S ANY WEEDS DOWN THERE AND JUST TELL EXACTLY HOW HIGH OFF THE BOTTOM I AM. AND TYPICALLY, YOU KNOW, WE’RE ANYWHERE FROM 13 TO 7 FEET OF WATER AND I WANT TO BE ANYWHERE FROM, OH, TWO TO SOMETIMES SIX FEET OFF THE BOTTOM. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I’LL PUT IT RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE ICE TOO. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>DEVILS LAKE IS TREMENDOUS PIKE FISHERY AND IF YOU WORK HARD AT IT, I MEAN, YOU HAVE A REALISTIC CHANCE OF CATCHING A FISH OVER 40 INCHES. TARGET THAT MAIN LAKE STRUCTURE, THAT PRIMARY STRUCTURE, ANY TYPE OF A LONG BAR OR REEF THAT COMES OUT AND JUST HAS THAT DEEP WATER PROXIMITY AND SET UP TIP UPS ON IT AND EVERY TIME A FLAG GOES UP YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO CATCH ONE OF THOSE BIG FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, THERE SHE GOES. (CHUCKLES) (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, YEAH! HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, COME ON UP HERE. THAT IS A SOLID FISH. COME HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE! LOOK AT THAT. BOY, LOOK AT THAT. RIGHT IN THE TIP OF THE JAW. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>NICE START. THAT’S JUST A SOLID, SOLID, RESPECTABLE FISH. GET THAT FISH BACK IN THE WATER. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE SHE GOES. FIRST FLAG OF THE DAY. I’VE YET TO FIND ANYTHING THAT WORKS BETTER FOR CATCHING FISH, ESPECIALLY FOR CATCHING BIG PIKE THAN JUST PUTTING DEAD BAIT BELOW A TIP UP. ANYWHERE FROM A FOOT TO MAYBE THREE, FOUR, FIVE FEET OFF THE BOTTOM. THAT OILY, SMELLY DEAD CISCO OR DEAD HERRING, SMELT, WHATEVER YOU’RE USING, IF THOSE FISH CAN SMELL IT THEY CAN FIND IT. AND SO IF THEY’RE HUNGRY AND IF THEY’RE AGGRESSIVE. THEY WANT TO EAT, YOU KNOW. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHERE YOU PUT IT IN THE WATER COLUMN, THEY’RE GOING TO FIND IT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT TO MAKE IT SO THEY HANG HORIZONTAL. JUST LIKE THAT. AND THAT’S THAT BIG 2-0 RIG. YOU SEE THERE, JUST THE LOOPS THAT WAY THE HOOKS COME TOGETHER WHEN YOU’RE FIGHTING A FISH SO YOU DON’T GET A HOOK CAUGHT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ICE. THAT’S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THAT RIG. LOOK HOW MUCH LINE THAT FISH TOOK OUT. WHERE THAT RUBBER BAND IS? A GOOD TEN FEET OF LINE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WE’RE JUST USING DACRON LINE. I ALWAYS USE THE HEAVIEST LINE I CAN FIND WITH 40-60 POUND TEST. I JUST FIND THAT THE HEAVIER LINE ROLLS OFF THE SPOOL EASIER. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>AND THE TRAP IS SET. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, THERE’S OUR FAR FLAG HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WOW. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT HIM!>>BOY, THIS FISH IS STRONG. OH, IT GOT OFF. NO, HE’S THERE. HE’S COMING AT ME. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WHOA, WHOA. BOY, THAT FISH IS FIGHTING HARD. HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT. OH, YEAH. IT’S ANOTHER RESPECTABLE EATER. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, YEAH! OH! LOOK AT THE BUILD ON THESE FISH. BOY, THAT FISH HAS BEEN EATING GOOD. WOW. WOW. I’M GONNA GET THAT FISH IN THE WATER. I’M GONNA STICK HER RIGHT BACK IN THE HOLE. GRAB MY PLIERS. HOOKED IN A FUNNY SPOT. THERE. NICE, NICE. WOW, THAT IS A GATOR. WHOA. (CHUCKLES)>>SLIME UP. OUR NORTH DAKOTA REGULATIONS ARE TAILOR-MADE FOR PIKE FISHING AND SINCE YOU CAN USE FOUR LINES PER ANGLER. AND SO TIP UPS CAN BE SO EFFECTIVE WHEN YOU’RE PIKE FISHING, YOU PUT FOUR TIP UPS OUT PER PERSON, YOU CAN JUST COVER A BIG AREA. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>IT’S A NICE DAY FOR TIP UP FISHING. THE WIND’S BLOWING ACROSS HERE PRETTY GOOD BUT IT’S JUST A BEAUTIFUL DAY, ESPECIALLY FOR EARLY WINTER. BUT JUST A WAITING GAME, WAIT FOR ONE OF THESE FLAGS TO POP. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THIS IS GOING. BOY, IT WAS TURNING PRETTY GOOD WHEN I FIRST CAME UP HERE. AND SHE’S STILL THERE. OH, BIG FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HOHOHO. (CHUCKLES) (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, SHE’S JUST A-ROLLING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>COME ON. GET STARTED. THERE WE GO. WHOA. SHE CAME ALIVE THERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE WE GO. LOOK AT THAT. THAT’S PROBABLY, WHAT, A – LIKE ABOUT A FIVE POUND FISH? SHE’D BE JUST A PERFECT, PERFECT FISH FOR EATING. I MEAN I LIKE, I LIKE TO EAT PIKE, BUT I LIKE TO KEEP A FISH MAYBE THIS SIZE, MAYBE A LITTLE SMALLER AND LET THOSE BIG FISH GO. BUT DEVILS LAKE IS JUST FULL OF THEM. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>TODAY IS THIS FISH’S LUCKY DAY. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE, WAVED US GOODBYE. TIP UP’S A MESS. THAT’S ALL RIGHT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, WE HAVE WEATHER MOVING. WE’VE GOT A BIG CLOUD BANK ROLLING THROUGH. WE’LL SEE IF THAT GETS THESE FISH GOING. BUT A LOT OF TIMES, YOU KNOW, THESE FISH WILL JUST KIND OF BITE IN FLURRIES. WHERE YOU’LL HAVE AN HOUR OF JUST NOTHING THEN YOU’LL HAVE, YOU KNOW, THREE FLAGS POP IN HALF AN HOUR. SO YOU JUST HAVE TO PUT IN YOUR TIME, BUT WE HAVE THESE TIP UPS JUST STAGGERED ON THIS BIG SAND FLAT. IT’S KIND OF A REEF THAT OUT AND THERE’S DEEP WATER OFF TO THE SIDE HERE. YOU KNOW, A BIG PROMINENT STRUCTURE. YOU KNOW, BIG LONG BARS AND POINTS AND REEFS THAT COME OUT THAT HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF MIXTURE OF SAND AND ROCK, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF FLOODED TIMBER. MAYBE SOME WEED GROWTH, ALTHOUGH IN A LOT OF CASES THERE’S NOT A LOT. BUT WE JUST HAVE THESE TIP UPS STAGGERED ANYWHERE FROM SAY SEVEN OUT TO MAYBE THIRTEEN FEET OF WATER TO SEE IF WE CAN TRY TO PUT A PATTERN TOGETHER. IN NORTH DAKOTA, YOU CAN USE FOUR LINES. SO THAT’S A BIG ADVANTAGE WHEN YOU’RE FISHING THESE TIP UPS. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, THERE’S A FLAG! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>IT’S TURNING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT HIM! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YEAH, COME ON UP. THERE! THAT IS JUST A GREAT EATER FISH RIGHT THERE. CUT THE Y-BONES OUT OF THESE AND THEY’RE GREAT EATING, TOO. YOU GET THE SMALLER SIZE ONES. SO, YEAH, THROW BACK THE BIG FISH. I THINK THAT BIG PIKE ARE COOL. I THINK THEY’RE COOL TO HAVE AROUND, SO, I TRY TO ENCOURAGE ANGLERS TO THROW BACK SOME OF THOSE BIGGER FISH JUST SO WE CONTINUE TO HAVE THEM AROUND AND EAT FISH THIS SIZE. THAT’S JUST PERFECT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GREAT PIKE. OH. GOTTA WARM UP THE OLD HANDS. THINGS ARE HAPPENING OUT THERE. YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU’RE USING TIP UPS TO CATCH PIKE, YOU KNOW, IT IS HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT WHERE WHEN YOU SET THE HOOK AND IF YOU HAVE A BIG FISH THAT’S JUST A LOT OF HORSEPOWER AND SO, I BEEF UP. I USE HEAVY LINE. A LOT OF TIMES I’M USING 40, 60 POUND DACRON JUST BECAUSE I FIND THAT HEAVIER LINE ROLLS OFF THE SPOOL EASIER. IT DOESN’T GET – IT DOESN’T BITE INTO ITSELF WHEN YOU GET A BIG FISH THAT’S PULLING LINE OUT. AND THAT HEAVIER LINE IS EASIER ON YOUR HANDS WHEN THE FISH IS MAKING A BIG RUN. AND A LOT OF TIMES WHEN YOU’RE USING PRETTY HEAVY-DUTY LEADERS, EITHER HEAVY FLUOROCARBON OR HEAVY STEEL OR TITANIUM LEADERS, TREBLE HOOKS. MAKE SURE YOUR COMPONENTS ARE HEAVY-DUTY BECAUSE IF YOU’RE USING TOO LIGHT OF GEAR AND YOU GET A BIG FISH ON AND IT’S HAND OVER HAND THEY’RE JUST GOING TO BREAK YOU DOWN. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH! THESE FISH ARE STRONG, LOOK AT THAT. GOOD FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH YEAH, WHOA. (LAUGHING)>>WHEN THEY GO YOU JUST LET THEM. OH YEAH, THIS IS A, BOY, THESE ARE JUST, JUST SUCH SOLID FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HERE SHE COMES, HERE SHE COMES. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>I JUST WANT TO GET MY FINGER UNDERNEATH HER GILL HERE. OH YEAH. (LAUGHING)>>LOVE IT. THIS IS FUN. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU SEE PEOPLE OUT HERE DOING THIS, YOU KNOW DEVILS LAKE’S OBVIOUSLY A PHENOMENAL PLACE. YOU KNOW YOU SEE PEOPLE OVER AT LAKE SAKAJAWEA AND RED LAKE, LAKE OF THE WOODS AT LATE ICE. BUT JUST A, JUST A REALLY COOL FISHING EXPERIENCE IN MY MIND. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE. OH-OH, SHE TOOK OFF. WOW. YEAH, WE’RE JUST, EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT. IT SEEMS LIKE TODAY YOU KNOW THESE FISH ARE KIND OF RUNNING ALONG THE EDGE IN THAT 11, 12, 13 FEET OF WATER. I HAD A FEW TIP UPS IN SHALLOWER AND I HAD ONE TIP UP OUT DEEPER FOR A LITTLE WHILE. AND NOW THAT WE’RE KIND OF PUTTING THE PATTERN TOGETHER WE’RE JUST GONNA START LINING THEM UP ON THIS EDGE HERE. BUT YEAH. (LAUGHING)>>LOVE IT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>ONE NEAT ELEMENT ABOUT TIP UP FISHING FOR PIKE IS THAT YOU CAN GET A GROUP OF PEOPLE TOGETHER, YOU CAN BRING KIDS OUT. IT’S JUST REALLY A LOT OF CAMARADERIE, YOU KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF IDLE TIME WHERE YOU CAN VISIT WITH PEOPLE. YOU KNOW YOU CAN PLAY JOKES ON PEOPLE. IT’S A RACE TO THE FLAG, HOWEVER YOU WANT TO DO IT. BUT YOU KNOW COMPARED TO SOME OTHER TYPES OF FISHING THERE’S JUST A LOT MORE CAMARADERIE AND A LOT MORE HORSING AROUND WHEN YOU GET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE TOGETHER FISHING FOR PIKE. OH YEAH, SHE’S TURNING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT HIM! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HERE SHE COMES. IF I COULD JUST GET A HOLD OF HER HERE WITHOUT GETTING HOOKED. OH, COME HERE. HEYYY. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>TGET HER UNHOOKED HERE. OH, DON’T DO THAT. HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>JUST A SOLID RESPECTABLE PIKE. THEY’RE ALL OF THEM JUST THICK FISH. NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN RAILS. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WHOA, THERE SHE GOES. LET’S GET BAITED UP HERE AND PUT THIS SUCKER BACK IN THE WATER. THIS HAS BEEN A GOOD HOLE TODAY. IT’S FUNNY HOW YOU SET THESE TIP UPS ALL OVER AND IT SEEMS LIKE INVARIABLY THERE ARE GOING TO BE ONE OR TWO HOLES THAT ARE JUST HOT. YOU KNOW AND I THINK JUST A CONTACT POINT WHERE THESE FISH ARE ROAMING ALONG THESE EDGE OF THESE REEFS HERE AND THESE POINTS. AND JUST FIRST CONTACT A LOT OF TIMES, THAT’S WHERE YOU GET A HIT. BUT WHAT A COOL, COOL FISHING EXPERIENCE. YOU KNOW THERE’S PEOPLE THAT COME OUT HERE AND DO THIS, BUT NEARLY ENOUGH. I MEAN I THINK PIKE ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST UNDERUTILIZED FISH IN THE DAKOTAS, JUST TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE BIGGEST FISH YOU CAN CATCH THROUGH THE ICE HERE IN NORTH DAKOTA.>>YOU KNOW PIKE ARE SUCH AN AGGRESSIVE FISH AND THEY JUST HAVE A CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDER. AND THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I LOVE ABOUT THEM. THEY’LL DO THINGS THAT YOU DON’T SEE ANY OTHER FRESHWATER FISH DO AS FAR AS JUST LEVEL OF AGGRESSIVENESS. WHEN THEY’RE ON, THEY’RE ON. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WE’RE GETTING BLITZED BY PIKE NOW. I CAN’T EVEN GET THESE TIP UPS IN THE WATER. A LITTLE BIT OF WEATHER MOVING IN. I DON’T KNOW IF THIS FISH IS HERE OR NOT. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YEAH, HE’S HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>NOPE, HE GOT OFF. OH NO, HE’S THERE, COMING AT ME. WHOA. WE’VE BEEN RUNNING, FLAGS ARE POPPING. THE WATER’S COMING UP AND DOWN IN THE HOLE. YOU KNOW THEY’RE ALWAYS THE BETTER ONES WHEN THE WATER STARTS TO ROLL OH YEAH, THIS IS A RESPECTABLE PIKE, I CAN SEE HIM DOWN THERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HERE SHE COMES, HERE SHE COMES. HERE SHE COMES. THERE! GREAT PIKE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>LOOK HOW MUCH LINE THIS FISH TOOK OUT, UNBELIEVABLE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THE FLAG’S UP, THEY KIND OF COME IN SPURTS. YOU CAN SIT FOR AN HOUR AND NOTHING AND THEN GET TWO POP AT THE SAME TIME. SO A LOT OF TIMES YOU’LL BE JUST STARING AT FLAGS AND JUST NOTHING HAPPENING. AND ALL OF A SUDDEN SOME WEATHER ROLLS THROUGH OR SOMETHING CHANGES OR MAYBE THE SUN GETS LOWER, JUST SOME TYPE OF TRIGGER. AND IT’S JUST AMAZING HOW YOU HAVE YOUR TIP UPS SPREAD APART AND ONE FLAG WILL POP UP AND 50 YARDS AWAY ANOTHER FLAG WILL POP UP. IT’S JUST AMAZING HOW THEY JUST HAPPEN IN THESE SHORT INTENSE WINDOWS WHERE IT’S JUST ABSOLUTE CRAZINESS. HERE, GOT HIM! COME ON. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>COMING AT ME. BOY, THAT FISH TOOK A LOT A LINE. OH YEAH, HERE SHE COMES. COME ON UP. OH, SHE DOES NOT LIKE THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE. OH YEAH, THERE IS A GATOR, THERE’S A GATOR. LOOK AT THAT! (LAUGHING) (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WOW, BEAUTIFUL FISH. I’M JUST GONNA DIP HER IN THE HOLE HERE QUICK. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OKAY, I’M JUST GONNA THROW ALL THIS STUFF OUT OF THE WAY. GOT THAT POSE. WHAT A COOL FISH. JUST LOOK HOW THICK THESE FISH ARE. OOH! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OOH, THERE’S ANOTHER FLAG! UNBELIEVABLE! WE’RE RUNNING NOW, THIS ONE IS TURNING. OH, LOOK AT HER GO! BOY, THEY DON’T LIKE IT WHEN YOU COME UP ON THE HOLE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GOT HER! WHOA, THIS IS A BIG GIRL HERE. SHE’S COMING AT ME. COME ON. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THIS SEEMS LIKE A GOOD FISH. WHOA, IT IS A BIG FISH. BIG PIKE. OH, COME HERE, COME HERE, COME HERE. OH YEAH, LOOK AT THIS. LOOK AT THIS! OH HO, LOOK AT THAT! THAT IS A PIKE! I KNEW AS SOON AS I LAID INTO THAT FISH THAT THIS FISH HAD SOME SHOULDERS ON IT. THAT IS WHY WE’RE HERE RIGHT THERE. THIS IS WHY I LOVE DOING THIS. EVERY TIME A FLAG POPS, THIS COULD BE ON THE OTHER END. UNBELIEVABLE. WHOO! WE’LL GET THAT FISH IN THE WATER. THAT’S A, THAT IS A BIG GATOR RIGHT THERE. SHE JUST FILLS UP THAT WHOLE HOLE. (LAUGHING) WOW. YOU KNOW A LOT OF ANGLERS 40 INCHES IS KIND OF A BENCHMARK AS FAR AS A TROPHY PIKE. AND YOU KNOW WE’VE SEEN PIKE OUT ON DEVILS LAKE ALL THE WAY UP TO 48 INCHES. YOU KNOW YOU LOOK AT A 40 TO 48 INCH FISH, EVEN A 35 TO 45 INCH FISH, AND THOSE ARE REALLY, REALLY NICE FISH. IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR THEM TO GET THAT BIG. AND SO WHEN YOU CATCH THOSE BIG FISH, YOU KNOW HANDLE THEM, YOU KNOW HORIZONTAL HOLD, GET THEM BACK IN THE WATER BEFORE THEY FREEZE UP AND JUST TAKE CARE OF THOSE FISH. BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES YOU RELEASE THOSE BIG FISH AND THEY’LL BE THERE FOR THE NEXT DAY. AND SO KEEP AND EAT THE SMALLER FISH, IF YOU LIKE TO EAT PIKE, WHICH THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT EATING FISH, THROWBACK SOME OF THOSE BIGGER FISH. AND YOU KNOW WE’LL JUST HAVE THIS TREMENDOUS RESOURCE TO COME TO ENJOY FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.

How Many Pike In 4 Hours? Unusual Winter Tactics For Cold Water Pike!

    January 8, 2020

    Can you keep warm?
    – Ahh, its okay! We have gone our on a really windy day. 10-12m/sec. – Yeah, right now we are in cover for the wind. I feel it in my ears, so cold! It has just been Christmas, with a lot of food. So we need to work out a bit! It’s almost freezing out here, really cold! But, the reason why we went out anyways, Is that today is a bit warmer than the past days. Now its about 5 degrees, compared to the -0 degrees the last days. Almost summer. -Yeah, we have a nice breeze here! So in theory, the fish should have been inactive the last couple of days, and then active today during the warmer temperatures. So I hope we can manage to hook up with some pikes today! This lake is pretty shallow all over…
    – Yep, is has a depth on 1,5 m. And it’s big. It”s tricky. But we are in a small bay, where the wind is pushing in from behind. And because the wind is warmer than the water, it’s pushing the warm surface water into this area. So the fish should chase the warmer water, at least we hope so! Cool, shall we get startet?
    – Yep, let’s do it! As mentioned, today is shallow water fishing. About 1 meter, so we need to be using some lures that can be fished over this depth, and is pretty weightless at spinstops. I will be using a Twinler. On a offset hook, a big bandit. Rigged this way, I can fish it right over the bottom, and the fish can easily pick it up. I will be using a chatter bait as well. With a curly tail. Nice contrast colours. Real noisy under water. If that doesn’t work… Then maybe this old Westin Swim. It can catch fish everywhere.
    – The favourite! In that colour as well!
    – exactly, but they don’t make this colour anymore. Or else, this one. Amazing on shallow water! It has a crazy action and spinstops! The colours are visible as well! – Is it a illex?
Yeah, a Gantarel Jr. It will turn around and look for any fish following. Real nice bass lure. Let’s see if any of this works. It’s really cold, because of the winter period. So the days are really short. So let’s see how many fish we can catch on.. how long? 4 hours? It’s gonna be tricky tho! But we have had some nice fishing out here before where we.. We caught a couple of fish at least! But other days there are zero fish out here. So 4 hours, let’s start the timer now and see how many pikes we can catch! Just arrived at the first spot, just to find out that the water is really murky. But at 1,5 meters of depth, it should be possible. So we are gonna be fishing some lightweight lures. And maybe with some crazy colours. But you told me earlier, that you have had amazing fishing on neutral colours tho? So despite the murky water, I am sure the fish can see more than we know. But, first cast. Let’s see! Ah, follower! About 70 cm? We just had 2 fish following in. They were really lazy, and came underneath the lure. So new we are gonna try some lures that can be hanging weightless in the spinstop. Sometimes they are just following in, right until they reach the best moment to strike. Then a spinstop can be really effective! Yes, that’s it! Finally it happend!
    – Right about time! Not that big, but a fish! How is it hooked? – Right above the mouth I think? Despite the size, it’s pretty strong! It’s hooked outside the gills?
    – Luckily not inside the gills! Ah, cool! That’s it, first fish. Damn they are cold! The water is freezing! You can really tell it has been cold the last days.
    – Tell me about it! That’s it!
    – Nice fish! Okay for a first fish. Full of leeches. Yeah, they are not moving much now.
    – Let’s get it back. There we go! First fish! Fish!
    – Fish!? Awesome! Cool, keep it tight! Isn’t it “leader touch” they say in Sweden? Noo, haha! Haha, damn. At least they started striking! Small jerk baits, orange heads, told you! The wind is just crazy out here! Think we are way over the 12 m/sec! Maybe even more! So let’s leave this area, and try to find some cover. Got some small bays right behind me. Hope to find cover there! There is even a guy in a pontoon down there, crazy in this weather! So sorry if you cannot hear us because of the wind tho! Let’s head on down there and keep on fishing! Fish on!? I was just about to start recording! Ah no! No! – Yep there are fish in this area. The one that got away. It released the lure from the screw.
    – then we know there are fish here. I was just about to tell you guys, that we arrived at a new spot. We are a bit covered here from the wind. Not really exposed in this area. Jens just missed a fish, what a punishment. Let’s hope they are wakening up! Think the odds are in our favour. Contact at first cast. Yeah, that’s it! Cool! Awesome! Well hooked this time! Yep right in the upper lip. Third fish?
    – Yep! Beautiful. They are really pretty out here. Just look at the fins. Real piece of art on these fish. Red gills tho. Real fresh! Off you go, call your grandma! It slowly swimming back down! What number was it? 4 fish now. I think? Should we try to reach 10?
    – Yeah, lets do it! Yep! Here we go! Strike boatside!
    – Crazy! Ah, cool! What did it take, a jerk bait?
-Yes, it is! But ahh, not the biggest fish. But its better than no fish. But weird that it’s hooked on top again? Yeah, the last couple of fish has been hooked that way. I think they are just really lazy today, coming from down below, just tapping the lure. And then they get hooked? Come here my friend! Thats it. Still not the big one. But it’s crazy fun tho! And they are so strong in these conditions! Crazy that they are so strong, despite the really cold water? But hooked up here, once again. Lets get it back. There he goes. Try to keep your balance.
    – Its hard man! How many is it now? 5? Five fish to go! And we have 2,5 hours left of fishing? 2 hours maybe? Ah man, its cool. They start to wake up now! Your turn now! Its mid day, and the fishing died out. But I think this is pretty common, and we have even mentioned it before, that it usually dies out mid day. But the fish is here!
    – Yeah, had a lot of followers! And we got some fish as well. So now it’s time for some lunch. Classic Mou Tomato soup. Not sponsored by the way, but Mou, if you see this…Give a call! Let’s get some soup and get heated up! Hopefully the fish will enter a striking period afterwards. Hopefully we will reach 1m+! Could be nice. A real fat winter lady, to welcome the new year of 2020. So a New Years pike. The new year meter.
    – That’s what she said.. Ahh.. Okay… Let’s get some soup! Lunch break is done, and it was … Damn good! The fishing died out anyways, right before our brake. So we are heading back out to the area we found fish, and hopefully they wanna play with us now. Half an hour have gone by, maybe that’s enough for them to enter a new striking period. What lure did you use? This green bastard. 5,5″ in a bright UV colour, on a offset hook. Was about to change to a jighead tho, struggled to hook them. But think ill try this again. Just to be able to come right down at the bottom. Think a slow fished lure down there, can do the trick. And we are at 5 fish now. Should reach 10, and we have around one hour left! exiting! Let’s see what they are up to.
    – Yep the fish is here and our belly is full! We are heated up, ready to dance! Hopefully the fish are too! Come on fish! Yeah, its good this one! Oh, just about to losse my grip here! Its an okay fish. Took the lure pretty hard this time! Look at it! Hooked really well. Good job! Nice, and right after we changed spot. It took the lure near the weeds over there! And we just talked about the fishing died out… It took a Platypus. Thats it. They are so cold! Really feeling like it’s freezing down in the water! Insane. Nice fish! Real nice condition on that fish.
    – Yeah indeed! Nice fatty, white underneath. Bad scar here tho? Weird, from underneath? Let’s get it back. It got me! you’ll get this one, without blood. Time is ticking, we have maximum 40 minutes left of fishing. But really seems like the fish are waking up in the last hours of the day! The key has just been to try out many different lures. We have really tried a lot today! And I don’t know… Fish!? Right beside the boat, woooah! awesome man! And you are back at the green lure!? Thats cool! Let me help you. Well hooked. Just a small bass trick. Slam, same way out as it came in. Goes really fast. Nice fresh, number 7. So close to 10, hope we succeed! Let’s wave goodbye to this small fella. Yeeeeah, its a good one! I just started jerking it real quick!
    – I am doing the same! What is happening! Boatside stike, it’s crazy! Think its drugged or something! So cool! Striked right beside the boat! Ah it’s pretty! That’s it, quick release! awesome! Funny they started striking, doing this power fishing! Almost like fishing GT!? Followed all the way in, and striked boatside! Ah, that’s cool! Number 8!? Yep number 8! Just two fish from our goal! We just found a technique that seems a bit… Not that common for the season, but it works. The lure I am using, is this twitch bait. It’s made for big fish in the warmer countries. And to be honest, I am fishing this the way is it ment to be fished for the tropical fish. Real fast retrieve, intense and.. Almost popping it. Real hard twitches, and then some pauses. And then the fish strikes in the pause. They always does that. It looks crazy, but.. it works! But it’s important to use a quite soft rod. Else the lure wouldn’t behave the way it should. With a stiff rod, it will be too fast and agressive. The soft rod will absorb this a bit. Despite that it seems crazy to be fishing like this, during the winter… Despite that, it has given us 4-5 fish here at 3 degrees cold water. and we tried 100 of others lures before they started striking. We had so many fish following in, without striking. So we thought to try something new. And this agressive style of fishing, with twitches and pauses.. Then they will often be forced to strike while there is a pause, and thats simply the trick today. Let’s try that one at the weeds again! Think my drag wasn’t tight enough? Sounded that way! Didn’t get it hooked tho. Ohh, right at the surface! Did you see it opened the mouth!?
    – Yeah I saw it! Thought it had the lure! Was about to pee my pants! yeeeeah, nice! How crazy! Number 9! It went crazy for the strike! Not the big one. But.. number 9. Ah, some fish has chopped of the tail? We just had some struggles hooking the fish. They kept following in, boatside. They are tricky today. But this fish started the last 30 minutes for us. Sweet little one! Now we have been fishing this area for a long time, so let’s try to move 50-100 meters alongside the weeds. We got number 9, lets reach 10! Hopefully a bit bigger! Maybe it stands alone somewhere. Let’s see. Finally we reached 10!
    – that’s it! 10 pikes! So cool, and it’s slightly bigger than they others. Look at that. Nice fish tho.
    – It just make you happy! Ah it’s nice man! Let’s release her. That’s it! So cool man, number 10! We have 10 minutes left of fishing, should we go for number 11? Let’s do it! New goal: 11 pikes!

Trying SMALL RIVER for Pike ?(Fishing From Shore – Good Tips!) | Team Galant

    December 27, 2019

Hello fishermen! I hope you’re doing well because I am. Today we’ll be fishing pike in a small river during … this beautiful season. Smash the like button if you like shore fishing in small rivers … this type of fishing is both easy and fun. Could also be really effective. Had a bite in the drop. What a strike! Ready again to fish for a big pike. I’ll head home and cry. This river is connected to the sea, and these rivers can be really hot to fish at during Autumn … because the bait fish like these rivers – and the pike follows. The same theory works for lakes. I like to bring as little of things with me as possible when I fish these small rivers. I have a bag and a single rod with me. The rod is a light bait casting rod. Saxa Shade Generation 2 … with casting range from 30-90 grams. With this Abu Revo Beast. Very light … and when fishing from the shore, you tend to swap place often, therefor it’s forgiving to use light gear. Don’t stay at the same spot for too long. In the bag I have pliers, scale and other stuff. I also have my bait box with me. Let’s open the box up. These are the baits I prepared with. I’ll start out using a bigger bait, this Flatnose. Plenty of perch in this river so I thought this Transparent Perch … color was suitable. 10 gram lead head. My smaller bait is this Nettel Juvenile. The color motoroil has been great in this river – 7 gram jig head from SPRO. Let’s get these out and place the box in the bag. First cast for today. Hopefully some pike here. Plenty of leaves. Insane. I need to change bait, the Flatnose has a treble hook meanwhile this only has a jig skull. Let’s see if this works out even better. Retrieving it as an usual perch jig. There! Fish! First pike for today. A small fellow. Inhaled my lure. Fun! Fun fishing from the shore. Here it is, like 1.5 kg. Took on the Nettel Juvenile – good downsize lure. First fish up, a sign of fish even though this is not a monster. Also had a bite before but I lost it. Took quite close to me. Bye bye! Nettel Juvenile seems to deliver some pike. I fish it like a regular jig. Lovely swimming action. A really effective lure with it’s action. Let’s keep going and see if I can get one more pike. Been fishing as far up the river as I’m allowed to – so my plan is to fish the same spots again. I’ll swap bait from Nettel Juvenile to something bigger. I’ll use the Shark Shad for the same rotation. Time to see. Here it is. In the color Okoboji Perch. Works great, cool lure. I’m using a 10 gram jig skull. Plenty of logs in the river … so I won’t use to heavy skulls. As you can see, there are no leaves due to the current from the ocean pushing them away. Finally I can use treble hooks. Ready once again to fish for a nice pike. There! Fish! Feels not too big. Took in the drop. How am I going to land this fish? Bass-landing it. How dark, cool pike. Same size as the previous one. Unhooked. Time to go back. Bye bye! Make sure your bait is rigged properly. The hooks are razor sharp. I attached a pear weight, I want it to sink a bit deeper. Check so the leader is okay. The pike took in the drop so it seems to be a key for success. There! They seem to love this bait. I thought they wanted a smaller lure though. Been using the Juvenile for some time. Bigger baits seem to be better. Biggest for today. Stood on this log. Would be crazy if I caught a 10 kg pike at this spot. Yes! It has been quite a slow morning but it seems as if the activity has increased. Two pikes in 20 minutes. Not super big. There are big ones here though, time to release it. I thought down sizing was the key, but I was wrong. Trying to release it as carefully as possible. Bye bye! I’m in my car relaxing. Eating some cinnamon rolls. Some Swedish fika. I’ve fished far up the river, but my plan now is to fish way down. Could be hot since it’s close to the sea. Hopefully we’ll have some success. Been here for a while without any bites – but from previous experience of this river … I know some days are tougher than other. I’ll head back in a month. See you then. Today I’m at the river once again and with me I brought Edvin! We’ll try to find the right bait, method and spot. Some days are way better than other in this river, so we’ll make a quick session here … if we don’t have that much activity. This Nettel Juvenile worked decent last time.
    – Good size for this small river … they perhaps want this smaller lure. Could be good – let’s try it out. About a month since I fished here before. Last time I caught some on the Shark Shad using a 10 gram flexhed. So that’s what I’ll stick with again. If your fishing shop would like to purchase these baits, like this Shark Shad, contact [email protected] We’re at the first spot. An area with some current and a back-water. The pike like these spots. While Edvin is making some casts, I’ll head for another spot so we can cover more area. Had one! Just felt a small nibble on the Shark Shad. It’s like 4-5 degrees celsius in the water … so they are quite slow and inactive. One contact in 15 minutes of fishing – promising! Would’ve been even better if I managed to hook it. No! Tobbe! Had a good one. What a strike! Lost it. Had an insane bite. On the bigger bait. Pike might like these bigger lures. Nice strike, was a decent pike – saw it when it struck my bait. Let’s keep fishing. Fish! Tobbe! Decent fish. I made a cast in the middle of the current. Thought I was stuck in the bottom. Feels decent. Bigger baits are great. Decent. Like 80 cm, quite fat. Took on the Fatnose. They like bigger baits, perhaps due to the big bait fish. Let’s release it. Fun! Let’s get one more. Fish! Holy! Nice one! Almost a meter fish! Nice Tobbe! These are the ones we want.
    – Let’s land it. No!
    – You lost it. Typical. I won’t cry because of it since we saw it’s size. Probably like 6-7 kg, 100-105 cm. Not a personal best and we would’ve had trouble landing it. So it’s not too bad. Was of course a lovely pike but that’s how it goes.
    – I’ll go home and cry. Took on the Fatnose in the color Hotpike, retrieved the lure really slow. Let’s get one more.
    – That’s how it goes sometimes. Better average size compared to the previous session. We at least managed to see it. If we brought a net with us we probably would’ve landed it. It is what it is. What’s your take on the session Edvin?
    – Decent session … we’ve been fishing for like 3 hours effectively and we caught 1 pike, and plenty of bites. Better than expected.
    – This river is not a place where you keep on hammering … so nice to do these quick sessions to see if there are some fish here. That’s all for today. Don’t forget to subscribe for more videos. Follow us at Instagram … make sure to smash the like button if you enjoy shore fishing. Take care fishermen! Bye!

Walleye Fishing Lake Winnebago : Tips, Techniques

    December 19, 2019

(outdoor rock) Alright team! Charge! (take me out on the
water) We eat! Fish eat! (way out in the woods) (gunshot) (where the breathing is easy,
the living is good) (out in the great outdoors) And
welcome to Larry Smith Outdoors. We’re sponsored by The Badger
    Sportsman Magazine, Bartlein

great day to be alive! (out in the great outdoors)
Holy Moly! (music) (music ends) (music) (music) (music) (music) Hey good morning! Welcome to Larry Smith
Outdoors. I’ll tell ya what, we
were supposed to go to Grand Rapids, MN to fish today,
but the Wheezy Outdoors people said the bite collapsed
with this cold front and now were on our home body of
    water here on Lake Winnebago.
What? You told me we were in Grand
    Rapids? I thought that’s where
we’re at! Phil, Just so you guys know, we have
Phil the Blind Guy with us today our special guest. Phil I hate
to tell you this, but we are
not in Grand Rapids. I thought you made awful good
time when you were driving! I
wasn’t driving quite that fast. Hey I’ll tell ya what, what we
do have is our good friend
Lance Sweeting with us today too. Great Day Guide
    Service. I’ll tell ya something
Lance, the water temperature is 64
degrees. Now in the last 3-4 days that
water temperature has dropped almost 12 degrees, what do you
    think about this bite and
what’s gonna happen. I know you didn’t want to start
real early this morning which I
totally understand. We’ll let that sun warm it up a
little bit, Larry, I think as
the day goes on the bite will
turn on. We’ll probably hit some river
flow right off the bat, then as
the day goes on, I had a good
bite out here pulling Salmos as usual Larry. We’re getting some nice
    walleyes, crappies, nice 11-12
inch crappies so as this water warms up a little bit I think
that bite will turn on. Ok.
Then we’re gonna go and do a
little bit of rock fishing down on the lake.
That’s kind of the cool part
about the Winnebago system, Lance. I know you live
on this lake, I grew up on it, the cool part about it is, when
you do get these cold fronts
that come in, these fish are gonna slow down
on the main lake itself until that water temperature
comes back up, but we have a
lot of river system here, and you can get into the flow of
the river, and the water is
extremely high, we got a lot of flow, those fish
aren’t as effected by the fronts as they would be on the lake
    itself. Correct. We have so
    many different areas that we
can fish. It’s nice to have those options. We’re spoiled on
this body of water. We are. You
know, the other part is we’ve had a tremendous amount
of wind this year, and which in one sense is good, it
dirties up the water on the
main lake itself, but the other part is we actually
have places we can go and fish that if we were on the Bay of
Green Bay, when you get them
big north and northeast winds there’s no
protection. Nothing there. Hey! I think it’s going to be a very
    diverse day, I think we’re
gonna catch a lot of fish. Stay
tuned! Let’s see what happens today here on the
Winnebago system. (music) What we’re gonna do here this
morning because of this cold front and
    this drastic change in the
water temperature, is we went for the river right
off the bat. Hopefully I don’t
lose my rod, what we’re gonna be doing
    in dragging jigs. Basically
    when you’re dragging jigs, you
try to go with the lightest jig
    possible. When you hook the
crawler, I always use half a crawler,
    and hook the crawler right
straight off the ben of the hook right there.
Basically again, the river is flowing that way, I’m
    pushing the boat sideways as
much as I can, the wind is
actually pushing against us a little
bit. So the key is to keep that
boat moving at the natural speed of the
river. And just dragging them jigs. What happens is, them
fish are gonna grab it and turn around so you gotta give them a
lot of time. Don’t set the hook
right away. (music) Here we go. First fish of the day for me.
You know, there’s a nice walleye. Lance,
you were 100% right. Let’s start up in the river.
The fish won’t be affected by
the cold front as much. When it comes to keeping fish
    on the WInnebago system,
there’s no size limit which I don’t agree with
but it is what it is, but the
    deal is that’s about a 14-14.5 incher.
    Perfect eating size fish right
there. We like to keep them from about
this size up to about 17-18 inches. Let everything
else go free. Not used to these little ultra
    lights, Larry! They’re kind of
fun! I love them little light
rods, Lance. There you go. Nice fish. Good
eater. Good one for the frying pan. There’s a legit 15 inch fish again. Just basically
dragging. Our game plan today is to just
work the river for an hour or
two, and then go out into the lake because
the sun is definitely up and
she’s got some power to it. It’s gonna warm that water
    temperature up, then we’ll go
out and work some canes and do
a little trolling, which Lance loves to
do, then finish it off on some
rocks. (music) (music) That’s definitely a nicer fish.
That’ll be a keeper. Remember the rule is no net.
They gotta make it into the
    boat. Is that the challenge
    today? That’s the challenge, Lance!
Why did you let him go into
your line then? Don’t catch them too big. Let’s
see that fish. There’s a dandy! No net, Lance! The challenge is
on! You gotta flip him in! No grabbing them either, Lance!
    I ain’t dutch hauling this!
What? You gotta do the torpedo!
Lance, c’mon now. Let’s see if he can get him. The blind guy will get the net
for you. Larry, you gotta bring
a net! You want me to get that fish in
the boat for you? We got her. Nice fish. That one
there we’re gonna drop back in
the water. That’s a nice 19 incher. Good
fish. I saw the way that fish grabbed
on to that, Lance. Real light. Light weight, I was pulling him
for about 3-4 feet then just
gave her a nice sweeping hookset. Not a
green carp hookset… (laughing) Nice sweeping hookset. Phil’s
gotta bite! You’ve been catching a lot of
    cigars lately, it’s time you
step it up. Not much better,
but… There he goes! Quick release!
Now if we would’ve had a net
there Larry! (laughing) Good one Lance! That’s one fillet down the
    tubes. His birthday is coming
up, I’m buying him a net. It
doesn’t matter, he’s got one right there and we’re
not using it! What net? That’s
not a sponsor. All we use that for is picking
    up cans floating down the
river! (laughing) That’s right! That’s what it’s for. (music) There you go, Lightning! You’re
on it! Should have another eater.
    You’re not getting a net… How
much for a net? Caught her Larry style! No net. C’mon Phil! You gotta
get him in now! Lance isn’t gonna net him for
you, because that’s the way he
is… There you go! Lift him up, lift
him up! Yeah! I got one in! Nice job. Hold that one up. I can take him off for you? You
got him Phil or you want me to
grab him? I got him. I got the little
    guy… That’s not a sheephead!
    (laughing) Somethings wrong with this
sheephead. It’s a walleye, Phil! OH! Not like usual. I catch sheephead, he usually
goes and throws them in the
live well, cleans them, and tells me they’re walleyes! Just
like he thought we were in
Minnesota this morning! I don’t know where I’m
at…(laughing) (music) Wow! You gotta like that!
That’s a legit 15 15.5 inch fish. Look how solid
these fish are! Again, its because our forage
levels look so good. Beautiful color too Larry!
Sunshine for the first time in
    a couple of days certainly
helps! And the wind’s not blowing
30mph. Right! I can hear you
from back here! (laughing) My turn, Phil! Sounds good! Boy I’ll tell ya what! Lots of
these 14inch fish. I think, Lance, one or two
more, it looks like that water temperature is
    warming up pretty good, lets
head out to the lake and see what we can do out there.
Gotta love it. (music) (music) (music ends) (music ends) (music) Creating a fishing boat that

today is we’re trying to show
    everybody how diverse the
Winnebago system is. We did a little river fishing
    this morning, now what we’re
doing is we’re coming out on the lake and we’re gonna
fish these cane beds. The key
to fishing the canes is I always like to find the
    canes that have the deeper
edges on the wind ward side. This one has a
deeper edge on the west side, we’ve got a west wind blowing
right in there, I’m gonna keep
the boat out just far enough so we can cast into the canes
and drag it back real slow. Kinda the same thing. Basically
just using half a crawler, 1/16 or 1/8 oz jig depending on the
wind. You can use leeches sometimes if you have a hot
spot, or a bad cold front, you
can also anchor up and slip bobber into
    them. Wouldn’t you say Lance?
That’s usually the best way to work these cane
beds? Exactly. A lot of times,
Larry, the windier the better. If it
gets too windy you almost gotta
anchor up and let the slip
bobbers just slide right back in there. Let’s
slide down the canes and work
    them until they’re done. Alright.
Let’s see what happens. Canes… Oh ho ho ho! Another sheephead?
Nope! Right next to the boat here
    Larry! Gonna flip him in?
    (laughing) That’s a nice fish! It’s about
time you break the streak here!
15 sheephead, 1 walleye! Hold that one up. That’s kind of the nice part about, oh I
    just missed one! Just missed
one? They must have just moved in.
Nice fish. 15 inches. Tell everybody how we’re actually
    working these cane beds. You
can see in the background right
there. We’re on the wind driven side
    here, pitching our jigs trying
to land them 2-3 ft away from
the cane bed, Larry I know you like to drag
them back, and I like to give
them a little popping action. Usually when one person starts
getting them with one way, then we switch it up. Phil’s
hooked up! I like to get right up into
them canes too. I gotta weed or
something… You know you guys could’ve
messed with him and told him it was a walleye. I should
have said that, but I don’t
want him getting ornery on us
today. We gotta fish with him all day.
Here we go! Got one Larry? Yep! Billy goat? No it’s a walleye!
My turn for a walleye! Hey I’ll tell ya what! Again, I like using a 1/8 oz
jig when I’m casting. I like to get that thing as
close as I can to them cane beds and sometimes
get caught in them. Little bit smaller than the one
    that you just caught, 14-14.5
incher. We’ll throw this one in there. I think
these canes, Lance, will go pretty much all year if
you get a cool summer like
we’ve had so far. It seems to me, I’m sure other
    people will say something
different, it seems like once that water
temperature hits that 80 degree mark, then I have a
    hard time myself catching fish
out of the canes. But when you do have
a summer like this one, where
we’ve only had a little bit of warm weather and a ton
of rain, and a ton of flow. This is
another thing, Lance, that I personally think happens here
and there might be alot of
people that disagree, I think when you have years
like this where you have a tremendous amount of water,
we’ve had rains 2-3 days a week. It’s been crazy with the rain.
I know a couple of weeks ago,
we had 7.25 inches by my house in 3
days. It creates a lot of flow
    through the system and I
personally think what happens is the fish come up into the
system. Hang on Phil! You got me
hooked! Sorry! Let me get him in. Sorry Phil.
I got into your line. Basically just pitching back
into them canes. Sorry Phil. I actually hooked
Phil’s line pulling this in! We just moved up to this other
set of canes, we pulled 2 off
the last one and basically I’m just
    using the trolling motor and
just moving along slowly. I just missed one
in there, pitched back in there and he grabbed it again. Let me
unhook you Phil. Just half a crawler, 1/8 oz jig
today. 1/16 or 1/8 oz is what I typically use, it all depends
on how rough it is. Just so you can control that
jig. (music) It’s a nice fish. Here
we go you guys! Another nice fish! Whoo! Love it, I’ll tell ya
that! Hey Lance! One more and then let’s switch
gears and go do what you love to do, trolling. Not
necessarily love to do, but let
me go back a second Larry… One more? Didn’t you say that 3
fish ago? Did I say that 3 fish
ago? Ok. Alright. Hey Lance, how
about 5 minutes more fishing canes,
then let’s go do some trolling, Mr Salmo and pull some salmos,
and then let’s do something interesting, let’s go
    into Winneconne, make a drift
through there, go down into Butte des Morts,
and then let’s go down into
Oshkosh and see how far we can get before we run out of
    sunlight. It’s a beautiful day!
    Let’s do it Larry! It’s a great
day! I’ll tell ya that! Kyle Sorenson here from OB

Lynch! Salmo time! This year, instead of going
    with plastic rod holders, cause
I’m sick of them breaking all
the time, I went with quality rod holders
and our good friends over at Cisco lined me up here.
Basically, I’m gonna put my trees on here. And we’re gonna
use them for trolling today. Pretty simple there.
Ready to go! Lance gimme some
rods… We’re setting up right now,
typically we’re running in 5-7 ft of
water out here. What we have
been doing is running #4 Salmos, anything Dalmation,
Viking, Fire Tiger, and running anywhere 18-22 ft back.
That seems to be the target
area. Once we get them set up, if
    they’re biting a little deeper
we’ll start sliding all the baits to that depth.
    It’s a real shallow column
here, so 18-20 ft that will be running 4-5 down
in 5-6 ft of water the fish
will come up and pop it. (music) We just got them out Lance!
That’s the way it’s supposed to
happen! Is it? Little walleye! Another
walleye! I’m telling ya, walleye, walleye, walleye,
walleye, walleye. Blue and sliver. That
did not take very long. Nope. Just got
set up. We got plenty of fish
today Larry, let’s just have some fun! That’s a nice fish! Nice
walleye! Nice deal! Turn around with
that one, Lance. oops! Catch and release, right there! It is amazing, so far, the
different things we’ve done have all worked out pretty well. It
    doesn’t always happen this way.
We’re gonna keep moving with this pass, then we’re
gonna pick up and let’s go into Winneconne,
    drag through Winneconne, then
let’s work our way down into Oshkosh on to WInnebago.
That sounds like a game plan!
Got enough of these today, let
em go swimming. (music) (music ends) (drums) (bluegrass music) There’s one Larry! Got him Lance? Yep. What we’re
doing right now, this is what
they call the gun club Hey that’s a nice walleye! Get
him in there Lance! Basically again we’re just
    kinda dragging jigs down the
edge of the river channel right
here And there’s a bunch of clam
    beds right here. That’s kinda
the cool part about this right here.
    You’re dragging through the
clam beds and I’m trying to keep us
    between 4-8 ft right here.
Right on the edge of the river
channel. Right on the drop. Alright! So
far, so good. There’s one! Yeah! I’ll tell ya
what! These fish are definitely stacked on this
break right here. What do you
got? Sheephead or walleye? That’s a walleye! I can see him
thumping. Wally. Nice fish right there.
hoo-rah! Yeah! Nice fish! I’ll tell ya
what! This is a great system! This bite will pretty
much go all summer long. It’ll get a little tougher our
    here fishing, like it always
does, Hey! Are you smoking? What’s
going on there Larry? The bite will get a little
tougher our here like it always
does when we have big forage
hatches, usually at the end of , and it gets a little tougher.
Let’s let this one go. We got
plenty. Oh, I got one! Here’s another
one! Phil the Blind Guy strikes! I think this might be a sheep.
I don’t know… Yep sheep. Oh! Look at that! That’s a nice fish. Bass. It’s
going our way Larry! Sometimes the stars are
just lined up. Like our buddy Matt Merten
says, sometimes your a bug and
sometimes your a windshield. We’re all windshields today!
I’m kinda liking this! (music) (music) Holy cats! Feels good! That’s a
nice one! You gonna flip him? I’m gonna
try, Larry. I’m gonna duck… (laughing) That’s a nice fish
right there! And the release! Hold that one up Lance before
you let him go! You gotta look at the belly on
these! Look at the belly on
that fish! It’s probably only about an 18
incher but probably close to 2
pounds! These are healthy eating fish!
Now we’re on Butte des Morts,
Lance, I’ll tell ya, we started up on
Poygan, caught fish up there, went up into the Wolf, caught
    fish there, went through
Winneconne, caught fish there, and now we’re down on Butte des
Morts. This has really been one
of those fantastic days! We’re trying to
make it to Winnebago! It’s one
of those days where you can’t
go wrong! Those are good feeling days!
They are! Let’s let that one go. Let her
see another day! It was a good
fight. (music) Now you got another walleye.
We’re trying to make it to
Oshkosh, Phil! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Stop
catching all these fish! That’s a nice fish! It is. He’s
    underneath the boat. You want
to net that one? What do you got there, Phil?
Here you go. He’s fighting a little bit.
There we go! Whoa ho ho ho! Nice walleye! That’s like 3 in
a row! I got one, Lance got one, and now this guy!
That’s 3 in row for us! Bing,
bing, bing! There’s a couple stacked in
here! We have caught so many
fish today! This is absolutely incredible. Hold that one up
    Phil. Should I lip him?
(laughing) See you next year! Take care

pimple Larry, so I went to a black and gold
Rapala! Nice fish! (laughing) I should’ve known, Lance! It’s
gotta have gold, Larry! I cant believe you don’t have a
    bunch of gold chains around
your neck! (laughing) No jewelry needed!
Right! (music) (music) (music) (music) (music) Hey I’ll tell ya what! This week’s tip of the week is
brought to you by our good
friends at Mikes Country Meats up there in Tigerton, the
    finest jerky on the planet.
I’ll tell ya what, When you’re backing your
trailer in, and I’ve got a bunk
    trailer, one of the most
important things is you back that trailer
all the way down and let them bunks get completely
submerged. So the carpet is wet. I’ll
    actually back it down, and
leave it in there for almost 30 seconds to a
minute, then pull it back up a
little bit so I can get my boat on the
trailer. (music) Hey I’ll tell ya what Lance! We
did what we set out to do. We
started on the top side of the system and worked our
way all the way down to
Winnebago and the amazing part was, it
    doesn’t always happen this way,
we caught fish all the way
    through. We could’ve stopped at
pretty much any one of them spots and caught our
limits. We probably caught 30-50 walleyes today. Just an
absolutely awesome time! And if people want to get a
hold of you, how can they get a
hold of you? Best way to get a hold of me is
    (920) 410-9920, give me a call, leave a message, I’ll get
back to you as soon as
possible, or go to my website, greatdayguiding.com,
    all the information, rates and
everything will be on there. Looking forward to
it! Had a great day of fishing,
lot of different styles we were able to fish
today and it worked out great. Gotta love it! Hey, I’ll tell
ya what! Make sure everybody follows us on our
